Big lie. Okay, let me take you in my time machine back to last week. It was Tuesday. I was sick. My chest was very congested…
That night was filled with preperation. Well, more on K’s part than mine. He made an apple pie for Thanksgiving and we both packed up all our stuff. I somehow managed to get some laundry done. K cleaned up the kitchen.
I couldn’t fall asleep for the longest time. It wasn’t the cold, I think it was just plain insomnia. Well, I woke up around 2 or so. H was crying so K got up to tend to him. I realized that I had to pee so I got up to use the bathroom. Well, all the moving around did something cuz my chest started to HURT. My breath was coming in gasps. It really felt like I was trying to breathe through a straw or something It really made me panic quite a bit. I had to force myself to calm down.? I tried for the next hour to sleep. The breathing thing was really bugging me. So around 3:30, I got up and came out to watch TV.
To top it all off, I had a fever! I was reluctant to take anything for it. I wanted to time my medication so I would have it “in effect” on the drive down. I watched Mama’s Family and Austin Powers and then Buffy. I was 5 am by then. I figured I could take something at six So to kill time, I took my shower. The steam really helped me feel better but the fever gave me some bad chills, even in the hot shower! So needless to say, I wasn’t worth much that morning. I took a pill at 6 and when we had some breakfast around 7, I felt as good as I could at the time.
Poor K had to get things all together pretty much on his own. I managed to pack some movies and put out Shadow’s food, though. We were on the road by 8:15, heading west.
We had great weather, so we were pretty lucky. We made pretty decent time even, at least until we hit Auburn. There was a huge accident with backed up traffic. Fun fun! That took us about 30 minutes to get through.
We stopped briefly in Davis just to stretch legs and use the bathroom. Then, back on the road again! Traffic wasn’t too bad yet, a little congested but moving along. There was a LOT of traffic going the other way though. ;)
My nose started to run, which really aggravated me. Of course, I had no kleenex, only napkins. Ugh. We got to my parents house just before 1pm and I was just so glad to be someplace where I could just stay put! I took a nap and was generally useless all day long. Of course, I was still having these on again, off again fevers. As long as I kept them under 102 degrees, I figured I was good as gold. But still a lot of shivering and sweating.
I still felt poor the next day, but at least my chest wasn’t bothering me so much. K was a super help with Thanksgiving. While I saw sneezing into tissues and watching the parade on TV, he helped my mom do the turkey and pretty much everything else. He worked a lot that day, bless his heart. I wish I hadn’t been so useless because I should have been at least helping with a lot of the work. But I couldn’t be spreading my vile germs all over the food.
I did manage to eat all my dinner. Quite a feat considering the last week. Plus, we’re talking mashed potato casserole here. I had to eat it. ;) After dinner, all of us except mom piled on coats and went for the traditional after dinner walk. It was such a nice night. It’s still very much fall down there.
We had pie for desert and I got a sliver of apple and a sliver of pumpkin but I couldn’t begin to finish it all. We were going to watch a movie, but we ran out of time. I couldn’t stay up anyway, not with Shopping Day looming!
The next morning we were up bright and early at 6 am. I got in the shower before I was rightly awake. K took a shower with me to save on time. ;) Angela came at 7 and we took off for Oakridge. We actually got a pretty decent parking spot outside Macy’s. We started off at Sears. K got his dad’s present(s) there. I was having an ear problem. I couldn’t hear out my right ear and nothing I did would help. I *hate* that.
The changes in Oakridge were amazing. The new stores were great. I found Angela the perfect shirt at Torrid. And I got K a gift at Old Navy. We killed some time at Borders, reading magazines. Very relaxing. About now, I would have loved to take some more medicine. But I didn’t have any with me. No tissues either. Yeah, I planned ahead.
At 11 we had lunch at the Cheesecake Factory. That was quite the place. Very fancy and the food was pretty good. They even boxed up our leftovers for us I mean, they took my plate and brought back a box. Amazing!
We went for a movie next. We decided on “Elf”.? K really wanted to see a Christmas-y movie. I wasn’t too into Bad Santa so Elf it was. The theater was amazing! You buy tickets down in the food court and then take escalators upstairs. That’s where all the theaters are. Elf was in a pretty small theater but it was NICE. Stadium seating and each chair was a rocker and a loveseat. Plus the seats were this great blue velvet material. Very cozy. Plus, the movie was actually really pretty good. I was surprised!
After that, we got some ice cream at the Stone Cold Creamery (expensive!) and shared it. By then, Ang had to get home so it was time to call it a day. Wow, though. It hardly felt like Oakridge at all! We ran out to Longs later on to “stock up”. I got some decent kleenex, some more cough drops and some ear wax removal stuff. Boy, was that ear bugging me!
It was my parents anniversary so they went out to eat at La Foret. K got us some chinese takeout to eat. Yum. I was still working on my ear, not all up to snuff yet.
The next day, I slept in about as much as I could have. It was wonderful to have a somewhat lazy morning. I was feeling even better, except for my ear. We didn’t really do much all day long. K wanted to go to Fry’s, so we did. Looked at a bunch of stuff there, but didn’t get anything. K realized their prices weren’t all that great. On the way home, we stopped to get gas. And that was about it for outside activities. I know, we’re thrilling people, aren’t we We all went to church that night. Wow, first sunday of advent. Christmas is sure trying to sneak up on us this year. That was pretty uneventful. H was good which means he was quiet. We had Thanksgiving leftovers for dinner. I wasn’t all that hungry for any of it, but I did my best.
Lord, what else did we do that night? Just watch TV, I think. I blame myself. My mom drove us crazy the last couple days. She can be so crazy about having guests these days. Boy, is she in for it at Christmas. There’s going to be uber-guests and they’re all going to be staying longer. She’s going to lose her mind. It’s going to be great. :) I can hardly wait. Case in point: on Saturday morning we had toast for breakfast and she tsk tsk’d H’s not cutting his toast in half. After all, it’s good etiquette and she taught us that. Uh.. NO. That was the first I’d ever heard of it. She’s nuts.
So Sunday we just got up and got to work. We had breakfast and then packed it all up. We were on the road about 10:15 so we made some pretty decent time getting ready to go. ;) It was pretty rainy, rained all the way out of the Bay Area and continued to rain a bit past there even. Definitely overcast the whole way. We stopped for lunch in Colfax around 2pm. Our plan was to finally eat at Togo’s. No such luck. It had been turned into a Starbucks! The travesty! So we ate at McDonald’s instead. Figures. I’m still smarting about that.
On we went. Started raining again and inevitably turned into snow near the summit. It was actually coming down quite a bit but we made it up and over without needing chains. Hurray! We got home at 3, it was just drizzling here. How good to be home! We took some inventory and decided to hit Walmart that night. So we loaded up the boy and off we went, again. We bought some Christmas lights! Should be interesting. One day, this week we’ll get them up. I have tons of ideas. :)
It felt like we were there forever. We got a LOT of stuff. We even got one of the Santa gifts, a GoBot, of course. It was 7 or later by the time we left. Ugh. But, we did stop for dinner at Mimi’s. That was SO nice. Very relaxing and for once H was on his best behavior. After we got some donuts at Krispy Kreme. Of course!
It actually didn’t take too long to put groceries away when we got home.? We let H watch Nemo in the meantime.? I even unpacked my whole suitcase.? Now honestly, that is a first.? By the time we put H to bed, we wanted to go bed ourselves.? And so ended the weekend.? It was a LONG weekend.? But it was good.? Great times were had.
Okay, it’s Monday. It’s December! Woo hoo! I have this desperate need to decorate. I have to wait until K brings in the Christmas box first. I should finish up my update. But I really can’t get excited about doing that. I can’t even seem to get my shower in. Here it is, nearly four for pete’s sake! I’ll get that shower eventually. ;)
Feeling better today. No more medicine. I didn’t take any at all last night. Course, I coughed a lot, but hey. The less medicine I get, the better. Poor baby doesn’t need more meds.
Found out today that one of the gals at our MOPS died on Sunday in a car crash. :( Her name was Sarah and she was just 27. My age! She has two little girls. How sad! Terri is very upset. They’re thinking of canceling MOPS on Wednesday, but I hope they don’t. I think we need to meet, if just to talk about it.
I can’t really place her right now, but I think I know who she was. She was never at my table, so I never got a good chance to know her. Sad is that though? How awful for her family. They are in for quite a sad Christmas this year. So that’s the news from here.
