So today I had an appointment at 10:45 to go in and get “probed” by the RE (or, more accurately, the RE’s very competant and friendly assistant). Yep, you heard it right folks, the Clomid Train is leaving the building. And I’m on board. Wouldn’t it *rock* if I could get pregnant the first cycle? And honestly, don’t you think I’m due that sort of break right about now??
So K is driving me to the appointment, which is of course on the exact opposite end of town from where we live so we have to brave the interstate. Also requires us taking the van out in rain when we finally just got it washed yesterday. Whatever. So we’re cranking along in the fast lane and I’m watching the other cars in traffic, la la la la…
I see this one car, a hundred or so feet in front of us in the righthand lane, having some troubles. People behind him are breaking and then all the sudden the freaking rear wheel fell off. It *fell off*. It fell the fuck off. (Anyone else here a fan of Ron White’s They Call Me Tater Salad?) I’m just starting to process this as the wheel goes bouncing across all the lanes of traffic. In the lane next to us is a big ol’ semi truck and I said to K, “The wheel just came off that car,” when the wheel appeared. It rolled from in front of the semi into our lane. K, by this point, has all but stopped the car (yes, folks IN THE FAST LANE) as we watched this errant wheel roll across, hit the divider, roll up the divider, bounce along the top before finally falling over to the other side of the interstate to terrorize the drivers on that side for a change.
K afterward said it was a good thing I’d said the wheel had come off because he knew to look for it and slow down. Otherwise, it could have bounced into our windshield or we could have hit it or any number of horrible things. And in case you’re wondering, the driver in the unlucky vehicle was fine. He pulled off the road fine and was probably in dire need of a change of underpants. As we returned home barely a 1/2 hour later, we saw him still at the side of the road, someone helping him getting a spare tire on his car. And the wheel? We saw it on the righthand side of the road which means it had traveled across all those lanes of traffice too.
Never a dull moment on the interstate, let me tell you!
