Okay, our bed sucks. It *really sucks* The bedframe, at one point, didn’t suck. It just got that way over many moves. The bed itself was given to us by K’s parents. It was a reconditioned mattress and boxsprings at that point anyhow. So lord knows how old this set *really* is.
We hate it. We like soft, fluffy beds (the word firm is a no-no in this house). This bed is… not. We try to make the best of it with an extra thick mattress pad and a feather bed that we put underneath that. But the fact of the matter is, it’s like trying to make :shit smell like a rose. Sorta hard to accomplish. We know we need a new bed. We’ve needed one for ages.
Like I said, countless moves have damaged our bedframe. It’s a rather lovely, highly polished cherrywood sleighbed. However, the supports underneath have loosened and a lot of the screws have fallen out. Since H has an affinity for jumping on our bed, some of these supports have fallen off altogether.
So yesterday while I was putting new sheets on the bed, I noticed one of the supports had fallen down in such a way that there wasn’t much keeping the boxsprings and mattress afloat other than good luck. So I informed K and he came up to check it out. We pulled the mattress off so it hung half over the foot of the bedframe (and this is where Tiger decided to nap, hence the photo). K investigated and determined it needed some serious repair work. He started in on it and once again griped about getting a new bed.
Sears, as it would happen, is having a fine sale. Pretty much every mattress they off is 50% with 0% APR until next year. Not too shabby. We both would like to upgrade to a king sized bed and here was the perfect chance. But what did K say?
“We should do it. But we can’t do it today, of course.”
Of course. I mean, we have the credit available on our Sears account. We have nothing else planned all weekend. We have a very broken down bed *and* Sears will set up the new bed and remove the old one for free. What more could you want?
I do understand the why’s though. We’re hoping to get a home equity loan here soon. With that we plan to pay off all our debt and work on our backyard. With the debt paid off, K feels better about getting the bed and I can understand that. But lord, I should not have tried out that one bed at Sears today because it was HEAVEN and I’m ruined for every other mattress in creation.

When my husband and I were looking for a new bed a couple of years ago I made te biggest mistake when I laid down on the highest bed they had in the place. I was in heaven and then when he laid on it he drooled as well. It was definately out of our price range … that was until we got our lovely Slumberland credit. I’ve never felt more posh than that day just pointing at what I wanted. We still love our bed to this day and look forward to climbing into it every night - I seriously need a step stool. It looks a lot like the one you postd a link to but it’s a Simmons Back Care Dublin floofy type bed or something. It all translats into pure heavenly goodness - especially after sleeping on what resembled a sheet of plywood.
(I should note that I found your blog because I use one of your gorgeous skins for my blog … I’ve been a regular lurker for a while now)

Sounds like us…but the opposite. We both like firm beds.
Eventually, we replaced the mattress, and slept like that for a couple of years. But it was still hurting our backs.
Then when we moved to Texas, his mom bought us a new box spring, and that made all the difference in the world! But we couldn’t have bought it ourselves. If she didn’t get it for us, we would still be breaking our backs every time we went to bed. Hell, if she didn’t get that box spring for is, we would probably be fighting over who gets to sleep on the couch tonight. Heh.

I could have sworn I started out that post with “our bed was a hand me down too”….
Oh well. Heh. It’s late, and I need to go to bed. That’s my excuse, and I’m sticking to it!
