Oh the humanity! I posted a big long missive yesterday evening about the movie and my experience, yadda yadda… well wouldn’t you know it, it went *poof*. I was using K’s laptop and as he’s a little backward about browsers, I had to use IE. And IE… well it ate my post. The whole thing. I was too heartbroken to attempt a rewrite yesterday so today I’m going to try to reconstuct my thoughts.
Things that I totally loved about Star Wars: The Revenge of the Sith:
- Artoo - He totally kicked bootie, didn’t he? It was cool seeing Artoo take such an active roll. I loved him hiding from the droids when his little “intercom” was blaring with the Jedi’s orders. And then setting them all on fire…classic.
Yay for Artoo! - Speaking of kicking bootie, let’s talk Yoda. Of course we knew from Episode 2 that Yoda rocked. But he was that much cooler this time around. He had some great lines and his battle with Palpatine was off the charts.
- Anakin wasn’t nearly as annoying this time around. Sure, the scenes with him and Padme were still about as interesting as watching paint dry, but Hayden Christensen’s acting was a lot better and he was a lot more interesting to watch. Not as whiny and annoying. Also, watching him get Vader-ized at the end was a blast and a half. I loved the almost scared look he had as the mask came towards his face. Plus, how awesome was it that we finally got to see what things look like through Vader’s eyes? I always had a feeling it looked a bit like “Terminator-vision” so I was glad to see I was right.
- Obi-wan was awesome too… It was great to see his struggle with the knowledge that Anakin had turned bad and that he’d have to destroy him. And don’t think I didn’t catch him grabbing Vader’s lightsaber there are the end when he thought Anakin was a crispy and dead critter.
- Speaking of which, the continuity was fantastic. Finally, everything got sewn together neatly and made good (or least fair) sense. Like the shot of Senator Organa’s blockade runner, the same hallway we first saw in the beginning of Episode 4 all those years ago. It was like seeing an old friend.
- Wookiees! How awesome was it to finally visit the planet Kashyyk? And get to see Chewie! I almost wish we’d been able to spend more time there. Damn Lucas for changing his mind in “Return of the Jedi” and making the wookiees into ewoks. The wookiees looked to be about a hundred times more interesting.
So I could go on and on for days about things I thought were awesome. Needless to say, this movie was a lot better than either Episodes 1 or 2. Heck, it was better than both of them put together. Even the opening “crawl” was better, finally conveying more action rather than political ramblings…yawn. It was a long movie… I don’t know how long it was exactly but I’m convinced it had to be that long to properly cover all the stuff it had to cover. Otherwise we would have been left with a lot more questions.
And little H did well. He was very good about covering his eyes when he felt he needed to. He got a little overwhelmed near the end, I think it was the anticipation. I reminded him it was just a movie, just pretend. It wasn’t real. After that he felt better and when we left the theater he was all smiles. He kept talking all day about how fun it was so I’m really glad we all went. Heck, I got a little overwhelmed at times, so I could hardly blame him.
But all in all, a great flick. As I heard someone say, it’s George Lucas’ personal apology for Jar-Jar Binks. ![]()
