I may not have said anything about it yet this week, but rest assured, I’ve been watching what’s happening down on the Gulf Coast and thinking about the poor victims and survivors of Hurricane Katrina every day. And it seriously breaks my heart. I mean, I knew this was going to be bad. Last weekend, when I would hear reports of this hurricane headed towards New Orleans and the “worst-case scenario” reports, I had a bad feeling. And it’s so much worse than I thought it would be. I often think of the poor people whose homes are obliterated or flooded beyond repair, who have no food, no car, no water, no medicine…NOTHING. I wish I could be down there, bringing them some relief, somehow. It’s a nightmare situation, and that’s putting it lightly.
Being in Reno, Nevada, there isn’t a whole lot I *can* do. Donating water, food and blankets and such isn’t very feasible right now. There’s no good way to get those supplies to the people who need them in a timely manner. If we were closer, we could do more good, but being so far, the best way to help is donating money. One of the biggest efforts here in town is being put on by a television station as well as several radio stations. It was supposed to only be today but there was such a response, that they’re going to collect donations tomorrow morning as well. I wanted to help *somehow* so after K got off work we drove down to the site and gave them some cash. Such sweet people, they gave us a carnation as a way of thanks.
I felt good, but I would have felt better had I been able to do more. I heartily encourage any of you out there to do what you can. Consider donating money to the Red Cross or the Salvation Army. There are a lot of people out there who need a lot of help.

Yes, another MeMe post. Shut up. It’s one of those weeks and if I didn’t have this bit of innocent, harmless fun to indulge in I just might go running into the street, screaming my fool head off.
I got tagged for this one by Garnet (go check her out and her super cool looking new blog
),
The total number of books you own
This is a joke right? Becuase I’m not going to go count. Let’s suffice it to say that I have a LOT of them. I’ve given away a lot of books actually, but I keep all my Nora Roberts/JD Robb ones, as well as ones that were sentimental to me in my youth. At least 100, I know its actually a lot, lot more.
What was the last book you bought
Shoot. I know this one. It was Divine Evil by Nora Roberts. I think. I’m pretty sure. Yeah. That was it. :lol
What was the last book I read
Just finished Baker Towers by Jennifer Haigh and am nearly finished with True Betrayals by Nora Roberts. I’m just about ready to start a new one that I can’t recall the title of off the top of my head.
List 5 books which have been particularly meaningful to you
- Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. I read this in 10th grade and loved it with the fire of a thousand suns. Oh the drama!
- Any H Potter book, actually, the whole series. It has really captured my imagination and my heart and I *live* for the next release.
- Ratha’s Creature by Clare Bell. I read this one in junior high and thought it was so imaginative and interesting. Still is.
- Remember Me by Christopher Pike. Another book from my youth, opened me up to the rest of his books, which I loved, and I am still fascinated with the story of the ghost avenging her wrongful death…
- The Stand by Stephen King. My favorite of all of his books (though there are some that are close) and the first of his I was able to actually finish. GREAT fable.
I’m not tagging people because I tagged people last time and I don’t want anything thrown at my head. :shifty
