The Cycle? She is here.

by Marilyn on September 3, 2005

While we were packing for our trip, I made an offhanded remark about, “You know what would make this trip complete? If I got my period.” And K heartily agreed. Because we both remembered well the Fateful Reunion Trip of 2000.

For those of you who don’t know (and that’s pretty much all of you), in July of 2000 we went with K’s family to Provo, Utah for a family reunion. H was 8 months old at the time and starting to be a little intolerant of long car trips. Which is perfect since the trip to Provo from Reno is about a 9 hour trip. Under the best of circumstances. And these were not good circumstances. We stopped over in Elko for the night and guess what? My first postpartum period showed up the day we were leaving for Provo. How lucky is that?

Did I mention we were camping in Provo?

The weather itself was setting records, days upon days in the 100 degree range. And we took the “long way” to Provo too. I think someone thought it was scenic but what it was was LONG. It turned a five hour trip from Elko to Provo into a seven hour trip. And when we got there, it was sweltering. And of course? Our campground had NO TREES. Not a single one. We stood in the shade of campers to keep cool. And at night, when things cooled down, the bugs came out. Because of course this campground was right on the lake.

MISERABLE.

So anyhow, not a really good situation upon which to welcome the return of my fertility. So of course my casual remark tempted the fates. It was just too good to pass up. And me? Being an idiot didn’t pack a single santiary supply. Naturally, this morning I woke up to discover that my cycle had indeed returned. My period was here. AF had come to visit.

You know, I could have been a) annoyed b) pissed c) aggravated or d) all of the above. But instead I broke into a huge grin. Because this puts me this much closer to getting back on the TTC Train, destination: Baby. I called the RE’s office and will call again Tuesday morning to schedule my “water ultrasound” for Friday. We’re underway here, people. Choo choo!
