I’ve been thinking about this particular “Song of the Week” for a few days now. What do I pick; a happy-go lucky song or one that is a little more reflective, in light of current events? I hemmed and hawed for a while about this before I decided that a reflective song was more appropriate. Then came the question: Okay, which song then? I don’t have my full music library at my disposal this weekend, since I am in Elko and have my laptop. But I think I settled on what might be the perfect song. It’s “The World I Know” by Collective Soul, a personal favorite. I think it’s sad while at the same time hopeful, which is how I feel about this whole situation about Hurricane Katrina. As usual, the lyrics are below under the spoiler tag. So here it is.
Has our conscience shown?
Has the sweet breeze blown?
Has all the kindness gone?
Hope still lingers on.
I drink myself of newfound pity
Sitting alone in New York City
And I don’t know why.
Are we listening
To hymns of offering?
Have we eyes to see
That love is gathering?
All the words that I’ve been reading
Have now started the act of bleeding Into one.
Into One
So I walk up on high
And I step to the edge
To see my world below.
And I laugh at myself
While the tears roll down.
‘Cause it’s the world I know.
It’s the world I know.
I drink myself of newfound pity
Sitting alone in New York City
And I don’t know why.
And I don’t know why.
So I walk up on high
And I step to the edge
To see my world below.
And I laugh at myself
While the tears roll down.
‘Cause it’s the world I know.
It’s the world I know.
Yeah, I walk up on high
And I step to the edge
To see my world below.
And I laugh at myself
While the tears roll down.
‘Cause it’s the world I know.
It’s the world I know.
