Melancholy

by Marilyn on October 6, 2005

at the end of the day
can you honestly say
that you’re living your life
to the limit?

are you smelling the flowers
spending the hours
grateful for every
minute?

a wise woman said
“don’t forget to have fun.
this is prime time baby
not reruns”

you can choose
what you want to do
so you might as well have fun
while you’re at it

That’s a song that plays on a commercial for a local insurance company/provider network/thingie. And I’m pretty sure it’s meant to be whimsical and cheery but every time I hear it, it makes me want to cry. Because all the questions asked in that song? I am pretty sure I can answer “no” to. I’m *not* having fun and that makes me sad because I know I should. I should at least try. I think I’m trying. But whatever; it’s not working. Maybe I have reason to be down in the dumps, and maybe I don’t. The point is, I’m tired of it. I want to be happy again. I want to be able to hear that commercial and not feel like throwing myself off the roof.

Makes me think of the closing credits of “A Bugs Life”.. “It’s the time of your life, so live it well.”
Lots of love, girl. I’m sorry you are down. You do have every reason to be - but I hope you can find a way to be happy with your now

Yeah, just reading it, made me want to cry, I can only imagine it with sappy music to accompany the lyrics.
