Behold the Backsplash

by Marilyn on October 20, 2005

The old kitchenHere is our old kitchen, shortly after we moved in. Oooh. Aahhh. Yeah, nothing too exciting. I’m still peeved that the cabinets are the wrong color (they were supposed to be darker). But I love the black appliances.

Fast forward to a few months ago when I got the brilliant idea to paint the kitchen. Nothing exciting, just a “taupe”-y sort of shade to warm things up. And hey, why stop there? Let’s do a tile backsplash to really bring it together?

The new kitchenSo K’s parents came down for a few days, bringing their tile saw and knowledge of laying tile with them. And work was commenced on Backsplash 2005. Every now and then I would come downstairs to survey the progress and whistle appreciatively. :) It’s a living. But doesn’t it look :fab?? Seriously, I love how it warms up the whole room, gives it such a great feel.

The new kitchenOf course, it will look even better when we actually get around to painting the rest of the kitchen that “taupe”-y color I was talking about (so far we’ve done one wall). But I’m mighty impressed with how it looks. I really looks like we spent the big bucks on this project and we really didn’t. Just tiles and grout. Doesn’t it look amazing with the cabinets (which I don’t hate so much anymore) and the black appliances? LOVE!

It does look great. I bet you find yorself walking into the kitchen just to look at it.

We just finished our house (built it all ourselves) a few weeks ago. I can appreciate the feeling!!
