I have to say it

Posted on November 30th, 2005

Has anyone else been watching the truly wretched Amazing Race: Family Edition? If so, you know what I’m saying when I call it wretched. I wish they’d just end the damn thing already. It’s an embarassment to the Amazing Race franchise.

And the Weavers? Worst team EVER. And that’s saying a lot. You all remember how I felt about Jonathon and Victoria, so you understand this is saying quite a bit. They are just absolutely insufferable.

Has anyone seen the movie The Ref? It’s a classic christmas tale, starring Denis Leary and Kevin Spacey. Anyhow, the grandmother in that movie was a total head-case. And finally, after much provocation, Denis Leary’s character says to her, “Your husband ain’t dead lady. He’s hiding.”

I totally think that could be true in Mama Weaver’s case.

Still cooking

Posted on November 28th, 2005

So yeah, I still have a baby, apparently. I don’t have any scientific evidence to back this up, save for the absense of a period. And the heartburn. DEAR GOD, the heartburn. But I’m just going on faith here that I am still pregnant.

I’m *not* going to do another “Weekly Progress Report” thingie like I did last time. Partly because, I did it last time and looked what happened? (I’m horribly superstitious about such things) and partly because I’m lazy as heck. Or busy as heck. Or some happy medium. Besides, do you really care how many pounds I’ve gained or what symptoms are plaguing me? I didn’t think so.

But I thought I would give a generic run-down on how it’s all going so far.

Morning sickness? Not so much, thankfully. I was so ill last week because of that stupid stomach bug that took up residence in my intestines. But since that flew the coop, I’ve felt a lot better. I’ll get a little queasy if I skip a meal or something, but nothing awful.

But yeah, there is some serious heartburn. I get heartburn ALL THE TIME. Eat pizza? Get heartburn. Eat soup? Get heartburn. Drink water? Get heartburn. Breathe? Get heartburn. I don’t ever remember having this bad of heartburn with any other pregnancy. Woo hoo for something new? :lol

I’m tired too. Not horribly so, but enough so that I have this constant state of drowsiness all day long. And I’m going to bed earlier each night too. Interestingly enough, I’ve also had some insomnia, most often in the morning. I’m still tired but restless too. I want so badly to keep sleeping but I can’t seem to stop wiggling around and waking up. Urgh.

Nothing else to really speak of. I have a headache right now but I have no idea where it came from. I do wish it’d go away though.

So I had my TSH drawn last week. The numbers? They aren’t so good. The docs like to see a TSH under 2 and mine is 4.8. I’m *not* happy about this. But I don’t know what to do about it. My general practitioner thought I should just take the same dosage I’ve been on. She said she’d consult with a perinatologist and get back to me but so far, no word. I want that number DOWN again. I want to feel like I’m being cared for and watched over.

I called the OB today, and they didn’t have anything for me to do other than maybe get another beta done. K didn’t think I should do that, since I’m getting another beta on Thursday. I guess there’s not much else I can do but wait and see. I don’t like “wait and see” but I don’t see where I have much choice.

So that’s the pregnancy update for the week. :) Aren’t you glad I did one? ;)

Edited: 6:03 PM
I finally talked to my GP and she said the perinatologist said to double my thyroid medicine. The prescription she’d given me was for .125 mg so I guess that’ll be .250 mg…that’s as much as I’ve ever taken! Plus they want me retested in three weeks. Also, the peri said that if I see a peri in conjunction with my OB, I could get the c-section at 37 weeks. :blink Wow! So I feel better now, I feel like I’m actually getting something done to take care of myself. :)

The Grossest of the Gross

Posted on November 26th, 2005

Okay, I’m just going to warn you now; small children and people with weak stomachs should probably skip this entry. Because the title? Wasn’t just being cute. I’m serious when I say what I am about to tell you is probably the most disgusting thing a person can ever tell another person. It’s *so* disgusting, in fact, that I’m going to put it in spoiler tags. Because I don’t want any emails tomorrow complaining about how I made someone throw up or have nightmares or something. I warned you, read this one at your own peril.

So it’s a well known fact that dogs like nasty things. It’s also well known that dogs like to sneak into kitty litter boxes because of the aforementioned well known fact. Dogs are just GROSS that way. Our dog has been known to do this a time or two. Usually when she’s bored or hungry. Tonight, she may have been both. I don’t know.

Around 7pm, I was playing Halo on the PC when I smelled something *nasty* coming from the laundry room where the cats box is. I knew the box hadn’t been cleaned in several days and we were having company for the weekend so I told K that is needed to be cleaned. Because, of course, the cat box is off limits for me in my gestating state. He said he’d get to it that night before bed.

Well, a couple hours later, the whole gang of us are sitting in the living room, yakking and watching tv. The dog is nestled next to my lap when all the sudden, she just let’s loose. I mean, this dog has puked on many an occasion, but often there’s *some* sort of warning. Not this time. Just puke city. And it only takes about two seconds before everyone in the room knows exactly what made her puke. Because the absolutely WORST smell immediately filled the room.

I’m serious, people. You thought cat poop smelled bad? You thought vomit smelled bad? Try mixing the two. It’s all knew highs of EVIL. I had to leave the room, I just could not handle it. In fact, just about everyone left the room. Luckily, we have a steam cleaner so K was able to rid the house of the foulness fairly quickly but DANG. I can only hope those of you out there in Blogland never have to experience that stink. It’s seven kinds of hell.

And that is why I had to protect this post from innocent eyes. It was just THAT BAD.

Turkey Aftermath

Posted on November 25th, 2005

The adults tableWe made it back from Sacto! Barely though, it was raining cats and dogs on us all the way home. Didn’t snow, luckily, but we had to wonder if it might not have been better if it had. Because the rain? Was SLIPPERY. At least with snow we could have put chains on or something. it was a little nerve-wracking.

But our holiday went so well. The picture is of the “adult” table at Thanksgiving yesterday. It really was a beautiful table and we had so much wonderfully awesome food that I can’t even think about it right now without starting to drool. I had myself just the *teeniest* bit of wine. A) Because I’d already gotten skeptical looks when I turned down beer or wine for soda when we first got there and B) I really wanted to avoid curious questions. We’re determined to keep this pregnancy thing a secret until January at least. And it was a lot of fun to stand there and know we had a totally awesome secret. :) I would grin and giggle to myself at completely random times. :)

The kids tableThis was the “kids” table. H sat here with the other young adults and it was just adorable how they took him under their wings and played with him and made sure he was having a good time. :)

We stayed in Sacramento for the night at a motel my parents picked out. Bless their hearts, they were worried about finding a place that might be too expensive so my dad found some place for $45 a night or something. As you can imagine, it wasn’t the posh-est of motels. But it was some place to hang our hats and though sleep was a tough commodity, we made it through till morning. ;)

I’ve got a lot more to gab about but for now, this will do. :) Hope you all had Happy Thanksgivings and enjoyed the holiday!
