First off: I was bad. I didn’t post a Song of the Week on Sunday. Nor did I post anything yesterday. The former was because I couldn’t think of a good song and the latter because I was busy with design work, and when I wasn’t doing that, I was playing Halo PC. Yeah, I’m pretty sure I need help. Anyhow, many apologies.
I’ve noticed lately, especially with all the Halo PC’ing going on in this house, that K and I have such different social styles. In “real life”, K is the one who is much better at dealing with people. He’s just the sort that everyone likes, such a happy-go-lucky sort and very pleasant to be around. He’s smart, and funny and enjoys getting into intellectual discussions. Me? I’m more the sort to hang out in the corner, watch everyone else… I’m such an introvert. I’m friendly enough, don’t get me wrong, but I’m not very likely to approach anyone. And I’m sure a lot of times I come across as stuck up or something. K doesn’t have a hard time talking to people he doesn’t know too well, something I just simply can’t do.
But online? Our roles seem to be reversed. I’m the more gregarious, friendly and outgoing one where K is all business, preferring to hang back and just read or, in the case of Halo PC, act rather than to socialize. He doesn’t have the knack for using smilies to soften his sentences so he probably comes across as more gruff. It’s strange, to be the one who smooths the roads and chats people up, but it’s a lot more natural to me online.
Maybe it’s because K reacts well to faces and I react well when I don’t have to see faces. Or hear voices (I’m atrocious on the phone too). So if you ever run into K online and you think he’s a little socially awkward, don’t hold it against him. He’s really just the nicest guy ever. And if you ever run into me in real life and think I’m sorta stuck up, don’t hold it against me. I’m just incredibly shy. ![]()

It is true that we are each comfortable in a different environment. I hate the phone most of the time - I love to chat online. I hate the awkward first face-to-face conversations involved in getting to know someone, but once I am comfortable I am practically the class clown. So, I am wierd, too.
