We got my son Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith for his birthday. Which is a darn good thing because if I had to hear another veiled comment about how it’s out on dvd and we didn’t have it yet, I was going to go bonkers. So he’s in seventh heaven. And of course, we had to spend Friday morning in our jammies watching it.
And I realized some things while watching it. Just about everything that happens in that movie can be blamed on “listening.” Either someone is listening to the wrong person or isn’t listening to the right people. That someone being, namely, Anakin. It may sound simple, and it is! Obi-wan tells Anakin to relax about the whole Jedi Council “They-didn’t-make-me-a-Master” deal. Did Anakin listen? No. Yoda tells him to let go of his attachments so he won’t be afraid to lose those attachments (which of course, would lead him to the Dark Side). Did Anakin listen? No. Padme tells Anakin to just get away with her to Naboo, where they can wait out her pregnancy in peace and quiet. Did Anakin listen? No. Shoot, even Mace tells him to wait behind while he goes to arrest Palpatine and was virtually promised everything he wanted from the Council if he did so. Did Anakin listen? No.
But on the flip side, Palpatine makes some strategically veiled comments about the Dark Side and the power to prevent death. Did Anakin listen? YES. To the *one* person he shouldn’t have listened to!
Is there no “Life Skills” class offered to the younglings when they’re studying to be Jedi? Don’t you expect Anakin would have a better bull-shit detector than that? Apparently not.
Oh, and *no* one listened to me when I told them to stay away from Mustafar. The Seperatists, Padme, Anakin, Obi-Wan… I told them only misery awaits them on that planet but of course I was ignored and what happened? Misery. And death. And crispy flesh.
So anyhow, that’s my half-assed review of Revenge of the Sith, which I actually enjoyed a heck of a lot more than either The Phantom Menace or Attack of the Clones. But everyone says that.
