So right exactly this minute, I’ve turned 30. That’s a huge thing! I’m not one of those women who dread growing older and hesitate to even tell others how old she is. But 30 is a turning point. No longer can I get away with the excuse that I’m just a kid. Not that the 20’s are really like being a “kid”, but there certainly isn’t as much expected of you when you’re 25 or even 29 as when you’re 30.
When you hit 30, you’re expected to grow up. And my motto as a kid was: “I don’t want to grow up, I’m a Toys R Us kid.” So I guess have to start looking and acting more responsible now. What a bummer.
On the other hand, I’m glad I finally made it.
Now I finally at least am as old as I feel most of the time. I’m looking forward to good times ahead.

I’m 30 today!! And isn’t that rose just beautiful? It was part of a beautiful arrangement that showed up on my doorstep Friday afternoon, courtesy of ProFlowers and my loving husband. Aww! The reason I was so scarce this weekend was because the festivities kept me pretty busy for the duration.
On Saturday, we dropped H off at a friends house and went to the movies. And guess what? It wasn’t an animated/PG movie! :woot We saw Pride and Prejudice and let me just say. It was fantastic. I’ve never read the book, something I’m determined to do now, but have always heard how good it is. If the book is half as good as the movie, then I’m in for a treat.
And K got extra bonus points for going to see such a decidedly girlie movie with me. And not a mutter of discontent either! He even acted like he liked it! Consider me impressed.
But seriously, it was great and I’m glad I chose that one. My boys also presented me with gold hoop earrings, something I’ve been wanting for a while. I’m still wearing them, I love them so much.
After the movie, we went out to eat at the Macaroni Grill. Quite possibly my favorite chain restaurant. I ordered the lobster lasagna which did it’s level best to kill me with it’s fabulous richness. I was only able to eat a fraction of it, and we took the rest home. And had it for dinner last night. It was able to again feed TWO of us and with some left over. Holy Moses!
Yesterday, we went to church and afterward, to lunch at a very tasty, very affordable Chinese restaurant that K just loves. We had a couple hours to kill before the Christmas music program at church that evening so we went over to the movie theater to see if Narnia was playing. It was. And after driving our dear son nuts for a few minutes (he was VERY concerned about going to see a movie when he hadn’t printed off tickets at home first…he thought we were going to thrown in jail), he was very excited to see the movie. And the movie was great! I loved those books as a child, and it brought a lot of memories back to me. Plus, everything in the movie followed the book pretty closely. Naturally, I cried like a baby at certain key parts. Who wouldn’t? After that, it was the Christmas music program and then home again. Whew!
K has taken today off work. He’s under the weather with a nasty cold. So there was a bit of sleeping in this morning, followed by general slacking. I rather like slacking. I have a headache though, I woke up with it. And felt pretty queasy this morning, since I didn’t get any breakfast until pretty late. The cats have been in fine form this morning … so the actual birthday itself? A little less than fantastic. But I’ll muddle through.
And I had such a fabulous weekend I can hardly complain.
