Proof that life does NOT suck (right now)

Yes, Virginia, we have a heartbeat.
Our second ultrasound was this morning. And it went well! We were quite literally sweating bullets by the time the doctor finally came in the room. He asked first how I was feeling. After a tentative, “Okay, I guess” he asked if we were nervous. To that he got a resounding, “YES!” So without further ado he “got to work”. And guess what? The little stinker GREW. And apparently still has a heartbeat. I guess we were kind of funny, because after the doctor pointed out the little one wiggling around we asked, “What about the heartbeat?” He quipped, “Well I hope there’s a heartbeat if he’s moving around!” Listen, don’t mess with us. But there it was, in all it’s glory. The doc had to chuckle at me again when I demanded to know the heartrate. I was getting ahead of him. ;) It’s a strong 171 beats per minute, and we got to listen to it too! Perfect!
I don’t think I have to tell you the relief we felt.? I think it was palpable to everyone in the room.? Our son was with us, first time this go-round he’s gone to appointment with us (isn’t back in school till Monday).? He was suspicious from the get-go.? As we settled into the room, before the doctor came in he asked, “Do you have a baby in your belly??”? I guess we’ve been doing a great job at keeping this a secret!? But that kid knows an ultrasound machine when he sees one.? And he got a huge kick out of watching the baby wiggle on the ultrasound screen.? That was one of the happier moments I’ve experienced in a long time.
Not only was our little squirt staying on target, he/she jumped ahead a few days!? By my calculations, I’m 10 weeks, 4 days pregnant.? The doc’s calculations said? I was 10 weeks, 2 days.? This ultrasound said 10 weeks 5 days on one screen and 10 weeks 6 days on another!? Finally!? A child that measures AHEAD.? This is progress for me.? And made me feel buckets better.
So it looks like we’re on track.? Two weeks until we meet with the OB and then we can FINALLY start telling people.? I’m starting to bust at the seams here!
My newest little prodigy!
