Well, minivans do get better gas mileage than SUVs. Our averages around 20mpg while a friend of ours SUV averages around 15mpg. Of course, you know the minute they release that hybrid minivan I'm all over it.? THE only thing that could make me give up my current van.

No, a good minivan costs as much as the SUV, so I don't see it as a money thing. But I do see it as a snobbery thing...they want a large car but wouldn't DARE be caught dead in a minivan, which I think is just silly.? (though I wouldn't be caught dead in a Pontiact Aztec cuz they're UGLY, so maybe I'm silly too)

Hmmm.. When I see 10 minivans with only one person in them, I.. don't give it a second thought. It seems there's a perception that SUVs are 'rich' and therefore evil. A lot of the negativity I hear relates to the owners ability to afford them or to them being snobs (which is related to $). Which is sad. Surprisingly, not much talk about them as gas guzzlers and enviro stuff anymore. Minivans and station wagons never generated so much ire, did they? They have a lot of the same size/gas issues to a different degree. So is it just a money thing? I myself - I'd love to have a mini-van for the convenience factors mentioned (it would be HEAVEN to be able to go back in the back without getting out or performing contorsions best left to Cirque du Soleil), but alas dh swore he'd never own one for his own reasons (his mom had one and I think he formed his opinion early). Interesting conversation!!

I'm with you. I was drooling at minivans after a few trips with my son and I purchased the minivan during my second *short* pregnancy. I love it. I want to trade up to one that has the folding seats but other than that I'm pretty darn happy!

PS.. I'm anti SUV when I see ten SUVs with only one person in them commuting to DC.But, my family tells me to shut my mouth. They'll drive whatever they want and can afford.
