Collide by Howie Day

by Marilyn on March 9, 2006

I used to do this thing called “Song of the Week”. And it was fun and all but there was some big problems. 1) I didn’t always feel like posting a song EVERY. WEEK. 2) I found I was putting up songs because it was time to and not because I was inspired to, which was the original idea. 3) People started getting nuts emailing me to send them the songs. I had no problem sending the “Lost” theme I had, at least for a while, because that wasn’t something you could find on a cd and buy. It was simply recorded off the TV. But then I was getting multiple requests a day and I was DONE. And people wanted me to send them MP3’s for songs that *were* on cd, and that is not right.

So I’m trying this again. I’ve renamed the category to “Melodies” so I won’t be posting these on any sort of regular basis, just when I feel like it. Also? NOT SENDING ANYONE ANY SONGS! So don’t even ask. You want to have that song for your very own, I will be including a handy dandy link to Amazon so you can purchase the cd legally. I’m putting my foot down! Also, after a month or so, I’ll be removing the mp3 file, but leaving the post, lyrics, Amazon link, etc. This is so people don’t get crafty and try to download directly from my server. Cuz that’s WAY rude. Anyhow, on with the show.

I love this song. It’s off the “This is Alice Music” cd that I have linked in the sidebar under “Listening” right now. And the acoustic version? Even better. While it might not necessarily be about this, I feel it’s about hope. And that’s how I feel right now. Hopeful. So listen and enjoy. And if you want? Purchase.

The dawn is breaking
A light shining through
You’re barely waking
And I’m tangled up in you
Yeah

I’m open, you’re closed
Where I follow, you’ll go
I worry I won’t see your face
Light up again

Even the best fall down sometimes
Even the wrong words seem to rhyme
Out of the doubt that fills my mind
I somehow find
You and I collide

I’m quiet you know
You make a first impression
I’ve found I’m scared to know I’m always on your mind

Even the best fall down sometimes
Even the stars refuse to shine
Out of the back you fall in time
I somehow find
You and I collide

Don’t stop here
I lost my place
I’m close behind

Even the best fall down sometimes
Even the wrong words seem to ryhme
Out of the doubt that fills your mind
You finally find
You and I collide

You finally find
You and I collide
You finally find
You and I collide

Flabbergasted

My dear online buddy, Iris, had her big ultrasound today. I desperately had fingers crossed for some sort of gender news since I’ve been so stunted in that area this week.? This is her fourth pregnancy, and she has two adorable boys and a sweet, sweet little girl.? She was sort of hoping for a girl but thought it might be a boy.? Well guess what she found out?? It’s a girl!? And you know what else?? There’s another girl too!? You got that right… TWINS.

She’s been seeing a midwife, and as she isn’t at any specific risk for anything to go wrong, hadn’t needed an early ultrasound.? So this?? Came as QUITE the surprise.? And me?? I’m stunned. :lol I imagine she must be more so.? I’m just so excited for her, you know!? TWINS!? I can’t hardly fathom.? But it has to be exciting.? And two girls!? WOW.

So I just wanted to send out into the internet my heartfelt congratulations to Iris and her family.? They have got to be reeling right now from their blessings!

The thrill of competition

by Marilyn on March 9, 2006

So those of you in the WordPress World may have heard there was a WordPress 2.0 Theme Competition going on.? Naturally, I submitted a little something even though I don’t think I stand much chance of winning anything.? Well, some bad mojo happened just after the deadline for theme submission.? Someone hacked the website of the guy running the whole deal and everything was lost.? And there hasn’t been much word on reviving the competition.

Thankfully, someone has come to the rescue, trying to revive the competition.? Of course, the word hasn’t really been spread much yet and not a lot of people know about it.? I’m not even sure all the people who worked so hard to enter the other competition are aware of this.? So I thought I might help things along by posting about it here.

So if you tried to enter the past competition or are interested in entering this one (deadline isn’t until midnight on March 20th), please visit the new competition webpage.? All the particulars are listed there. ? I think it would be great if we could get a TON of new themes listed to this competition; a win for everyone, especially the bloggers!
