I had my baby shower today. I haven’t had one of those in so long I nearly forgot what they’re like. And I certainly wasn’t used to being the center of attention like that. But it was absolutely delightful and I loved every single minute of it.
I had this nice fantasy going of taking pictures to post here in this post. Of course, I then forgot to even BRING my camera so I was out of luck there. First I forgot the camera at Harry’s kindergarten graduation bbq yesterday and now this. Am I a horrible mother or what? I should have that camera surgically attached to my hand, I swear. One of the other gals had a camera and she promised she’d burn the pictures to cd for me and give it to me. Doesn’t help for tonight’s post, of course. But we can’t have everything, can we?
So, ok we can soldier on here without the aid of graphic imagry. Or can we? See, I couldn’t resist adding some clipart. What a total nerd.
There was a fairly decent turn-out, which charmed and surprised me. I know so little people who live here in Reno that I wasn’t sure who all would come. We had seven people other than myself. And these gals went above and beyond. We had punch and cake, which is pretty mandatory. But very, very tasty. And we played some very fun games, including one particularly nasty one where we had to guess which melted candy bar resided inside the diaper. And let me just say? Almond Joy melted in a diaper looks N-A-S-T-Y. Good thing morning sickness has passed me by.
The gifts were, of course, simply to die for. I think I received enough pink to truly influence the actual gender. And completely adorable. I mean, the ruffles, the eyelets, the bows, the pink, the purple…. Oh dear god, that’s worth having a girl right there. I’m even thinking that maybe we need to keep this stuff even if the baby ends up being a boy. Because it’s all just TOO CUTE to return. And I got some very useful things. And some downright adorable things to put in the nursery like wicker baskets and picture frames. *happy sigh*
At any rate, I owe these women a huge debt of gratitude for showering me with love and attention for one glorious afternoon. And, darnit, I was cute in my maternity jeans, kitten-heel black sandals, black maternity camisole and hot pink shrug. Honestly, this much hotness shouldn’t be wasted on the pregnant. (WHY are my maternity clothes so much cuter than my regular clothes??)
Anyhow, the ultimate aim of this shower was well achieved: to make me feel more connected and excited about this baby. I finally felt like a “normal” pregnant woman. The sort who could have a baby shower. The sort who could say her baby is going to be born on July 11 and actually believe there might be a baby to bring home. And that? Felt good.
