Things I Love Thursday: I’ve got a couple!

by Marilyn on June 8, 2006

Amazing that I could find anything to love, cranky as I’ve been. ;)? Thanks everyone for your kind comments and understanding that crankieness is as much a part of pregnancy as the Braxton-Hicks and morning sickness.? I’m better today.? But then, today has been a bit more “low-stress”, so I can credit that. :)? Anyhow, on to the topic at hand.

I heard about this from Zoot, who is loving BlogHer and the fact she’ll be accompanied by her whole family (yay!) so she won’t have to leave anyone behind. ? And *she* got it from Michelle at Weaker Vessel who loves a pool.? I would love a pool too, if I had access to one.? And I *do* love BlogHer, more than you will ever know.? Like Zoot, I’m sort of “speaking” though I think she’s probably more a speaker than I am.? I’m a “helper/mentor” sort of person.? I’ll show people how to change font colors and add images to their blog templates. :) Are you excited yet?

Anyhow, one of the things I love is indeed BlogHer.? But that’s not what I’m going to talk about today.

First thing I love is the absense of cats.? Yep, another thing to mark off my list.? We’re doing okay on that list so far.? Anyhow, yes, we found a home for our cats.? And as of now?? They’re out of the house.? I wish the funk they were leaving behind was also out of the house, but that will soon follow.? I can reclaim my laundry room, feel free to leave my bedroom door open… oh the weight off my chest is something you wouldn’t even believe.

I don’t want to seem harsh here either.? I was always a cat person and even more, I was an animal person.? As a little girl, I always preferred to play with stuffed animals over dolls.? I used to watch “Wild America” on PBS all the time.? In my lifetime, I’ve had more than my share of cats and I’ve always loved and enjoyed them.? To me, cats were the perfect pet, and that remained true for a long, long time.? That’s changed a little in recent years, as I’ve grown to know and love Beetoe, my beloved rat dog.? Add to the mix how busy I am and I just haven’t had time to really enjoy the cats.? Much less time to deal with Tiger’s behavioral problems.? They were frankly starting to stress me the heck out.? I didn’t like them, and Kile didn’t like them.? And I found myself dreading having them around with a new baby in the house.

Since Tiger will pee on anything and everything, how could I keep an exersaucer or pack n’ play set up in the living room without him defiling that?? What about scratching up a high chair?? Getting in the cats room and peeing in the crib?? I wish I were exaggerating, but this is exactly what he would do.? And I knew I couldn’t handle that.? Given more time, more patience I could work with his issues. So he and Cinder are with a new family now, hopefully getting the love and affection they truly deserve.? I firmly believe they’ll be better off there, or I wouldn’t have done this in the first place.

And the whole fact of the matter that their departure makes me SO HAPPY.

Pack n PlaySecondly, we got the last thing (or one of them at least) off our baby “must-have” list.? The Pack n Play!? We were out and about, since Kile took the day off (he’s getting Harry’s cold…eek!).? I wanted to go by Babies R Us and take a look at some of the things on my registry.? I was thinking about getting some of the nursery goodies, but still outstanding on our list of “must-haves” was the pack n play.? We need it to have a changing and napping station downstairs.? Because I KNOW I am not going to want to tromp upstairs each and every time that baby needs a diaper change. ;) Plus the fact that it’s good to have a Pack n Play, period.

This wasn’t the exact Pack n Play we registered for.? But we soon realized that the one we wanted was $60 more expensive simply for an elevated changing station, a canopy/hood and a rounded bassinet.? Just didn’t seem worth it.? So we got this one instead and I’m loving it.? I think it’ll be perfect.? And I’m glad we got something off our list.? Relieves a lot of my stress.? We still are in need a breast pump (which my sister might be sending to me) and a diaper bag.? I also want to get a baby monitor.? But besides the breastpump, the rest is mostly icing at this point.? That?? Feels GOOD.

So that’s what I’m loving today.? Two very, very good things to love. :)
