Random Quickness

Posted on September 30th, 2006

Is it “quick randomness” or “random quickness”? I think the latter sounds better, don’t you?

la la la la la la

I’m in agony. A. GO. NEE. I miss my laptop. You have no idea how much I MISS MY LAPTOP. Mere mortals weren’t meant to suffer like this.

The good news is: Dell FINALLY responded to the service request. And, as of about 2:30 this afternoon, have said they will overnight us a replacement power cord. Wee!! Now, since it’s the weekend, I don’t expect anything until Monday at the earliest. But the point is, I’ll have something and sooner than in a couple of weeks which is a very, very good thing.

The bad news is: it’s gonna take another day or two to get it. WAH! Yeah, I’m not one for patience. And I’m sorta a spoiled brat. I mean, besides our laptop, we have two other perfectly fine, working computers in this house. TWO. But since neither of them are laptops they don’t do me ANY GOOD.

la la la la la la
In other news, Liam is a precious, precious baby. You may think you already knew that, but even so, I’m telling you again. I could easily grow old just staring at him while he sleeps. And while he’s awake, come to think of it. He’s getting SO close to laughing. He’s deeply amused by both his mobile in the pack n play and the ceiling fans in our bedroom and living room. He’s just a genial sort of fella. Even when he’s getting tired and cranky and just plain DONE WITH SHOPPING ALREADY (geez!), he’ll still smile at us if we make goofy faces at him. And right now? He’s wearing pants and I think it looks just adorable.
I’d share pictures with ya’ll but I can’t. They’re on the laptop. (seethe, piss, moan, gripe)
la la la la la la
My house is a disaster. Do you think that means I’m putting serious thought into cleaning it? It SHOULD, but it’s not. The entire second floor is threatening to eat itself in protest. And we just won’t even speak of the dishes, okay?
la la la la la la
I love weekends. Love, love, love.
la la la la la la
We’ve sorta regressed from the co-sleeper somewhat. Liam has spent the majority of the last week sleeping in bed with us. But the upshot of this is that he’s eating less in the night. Last night it was 2-4 ounces (hey, it was the middle of the night, that’s as accurate a guess as I can give you). He wakes up a lot, shifting and grunting, and I pat his belly until he dozes off. But I like to think we’re working on the whole “Let’s see how much of the night we can spend sleeping” aspect. Then we’ll be ripe for moving him to his room and crib. What do you think? Wishful thinking?
la la la la la la
Well, I’m off to rejoin the warm, bosom of my family and engage in a rousing game of “Scene it”. Fun abounds, people! Catch ya all later (hopefully from my newly restored laptop!!)

Cut Off

Posted on September 28th, 2006

my preciousssssI am suffering here, people.? My lovely, wonderful, ever-faithful laptop is currently on sick leave and I’m not handling it well at all.? Sometime late Tuesday afternoon/evening, my power cord decided it was done with this whole “powering the laptop” deal it had going and just up and quit on me.? Meaning, I couldn’t charge the battery anymore.? Meaning, I can’t use my laptop because it’s at like 3% power right now.? And the PAIN, oh the pain.? I have my desktop upstairs which, for various and sundry reasons, I don’t use anymore.? Like, I’m SO glad I spent all that money on it two years ago!? But anyhow.? I’m not going to go into all the reasons why I don’t use it so much anymore, but several of them involve Liam.? I don’t want to blame my laptop dependancy on an innocent, but I will if I have to.

So I’ve been stuck without my beloved laptop and my even more beloved internet.? Sure, I could go upstairs (as I am right now) and use the desktop.? But Liam is in this THING right now where he has to be held ALL THE TIME.? Seriously, like he won’t nap anywhere but on me.? Except for right now, but I’ll get into that a bit later. And while the whole Boppy/Laptop setup works real nice downstairs in my recliner, it lacks something up here at my desk.? Something like the ability to work AT ALL.? Soooo… except for real quick dashes up the stairs to check email, I’ve been virtually cut off from the internet.? And my dears?? It’s killing me.

Kile said he put in the support request with Dell but hasn’t heard anything yet.? I started to feel this real panic that maybe this issue wouldn’t be resolved for WEEKS to come and that is enough to cause my blood to run like ice through my veins.? I can’t wait that long.? I just CAN’T.

Weep for me.

In other news and in keeping with the theme, “Cut off”… Liam met with the ENT this afternoon.? Wee!? A real nice guy and a very nice office.? I’ll try not to hold against them that they CUT MY BABY’S TONGUE!? Okay, we wanted them to, but STILL.? So his frenulum has hereby been snipped.? It was actually far less traumatic than even his shots and even the doctor remarked on how easy it was.? Sweet!? Even so, I gave the little trooper some tylenol when we got home and he’s pretty much conked out right now.? Double sweet!? We’ll go back in three weeks to check on the status of his tongue and decide if any more needs to be snipped.? In the meantime, I guess it’s time to work on that whole breastfeeding thing.

I guess I have plenty of time to do that, since I HAVE NO INTERNET.

Last I heard…

Posted on September 26th, 2006

I got this one from Zoot.? Dang, it’s been a long time since I’ve done something resembling a meme, hasn’t it?? And here you thought I was done wtih meme’s for good.? Silly person.

What you do, is type your name into Google (or Blingo!? See the link at the bottom of the sidebar) along with the phrase “last I heard he/she was” to see what you’re up to these days.? So let’s see what I’m doing.? Because obviously, I’m NOT cleaning the house…

  • Last I heard, she was graduating from a Utah high school in 1985

Uh… yeah.? a) I’m not THAT old and b) UTAH??

  • Last I heard she was going to UNC-wilmington,NC

Oh cool!? That’s where they filmed Dawson’s Creek, right?? Maybe I met Joshua Jackson while I was there! :tongue3_tb:

  • Last I heard she was looking for a job in Biotech

:dry Right.? Like I’m EVEN that smart.

  • last I heard, she was a careful and loving mother, but not much of a wife

Ha!? Not the mother part, the wife part.? HA!? I sure as hell am careful and loving as a wife.? Aren’t I, Kile?? KILE??

  • The last I heard she was job hunting

Yeah, not so much.? Who wants a job?? I HAVE a job!

  • Last I heard she was travelling somewhere far and exotic on a missionary trip

Far and exotic sounds good!? Missionary… sounds suspiciously like work. See above.

  • last I heard, she was actually married and living in Paris

Dang, it’s GOOD to be Marilyn.? Paris is *suh-weet*.

  • Last I heard, she was teaching film courses at NYU

Yeah, what’d I say about not being that smart?? But film sounds fun!

Woo, that was fun!? So why don’t you go play with Google (Blingo!) and post the results on your blog.? Or, if you don’t have a blog, post them here in my comments!? Fun!

Screw Loose

Posted on September 25th, 2006

As the title would indicate, I do indeed have a screw loose. Two, in fact. You may (or may not) remember that little dustup I had about a year and a half ago with the ice on our driveway? Where I fell hard on my ass. Well, my ass and my ankle, as it would happen. One trip to the emergency room later and I was scheduled for some serious orthopedic surgery to cobble my splintered bones back together again. Ahh, good times. Good times.

Well anyhow, during that surgery I got a goodly amount of hardware added to my person, Some steel plates, pins and a couple screws to hold it all together while my bones healed up. Well guess what? The screws are fighting back.

Screw LooseYep, that picture there is of the two screws trying to make their merry way OUT of my ankle. Go ahead.? Click it to see it larger and in good detail.? I’ll wait.? …? …? … Creeped out yet?? I know I am!?

This has been going on for a while now, six months maybe.? It’s getting worse though.? Used to be you could only feel it.? Then maybe you could see it.? The picture doesn’t truly convey how OBVIOUS this looks now.? I think it could be because that’s the foot I use to bounce Liam in his bouncy seat.? He likes to be bounced in it for his afternoon nap, so that adds up to a lot of activity for that ankle.? So maybe it’s just sped up the process?? I don’t know.? But I do know this can’t go on this way. I’m gonna have to go get it fixed.

Now here’s the extra fun part: the orthopedic surgeon who fixed my ankle isn’t on our new insurance.? So who do I go to?? Obviously, I need to find a new ortho guy.? But, HMO’s what they are, I need a referral.? Which means I’ll need to go see my PCP.? And we all know how I feel guilty about giving her the shaft when it came to Liam.? And you should know by now that I’m a huge chicken shit.? So yeah.? Talk about a rock and hard place.? And let’s not EVEN get into all my neuroses about the mere possibility of being laid up again, even if for only a day.

I don’t like it.? I don’t like it ONE BIT.
