Man, it’s hard to come off a three day weekend, isn’t it? I just wanted those days to go on forever. The grind is just that and I don’t miss it at all when I have a few days off to just let my brain (and body, to some degree) rest. I hope everyone else had a nice Labor Day weekend and got to do just what they wanted to do with their extra day off.
Yesterday, we went out on a picnic. I first came up with the idea on Friday. I was having an urge to go camping but what with the short notice and the two month old baby, that just wasn’t gonna happen. However, we could just get out of the house and go on a picnic or something. We had Davis Creek Park, between here and Carson City (and also where Kile and I met!), Tahoe, Pyramid Lake… there’s many places to go around here that’d be very nice.We got a rather late start yesterday morning. Liam had had a rough night and so WE had a rough night. So we didn’t wake up until after 9:00 am and then we sorta slothed around the house for the rest of the morning. So as it happened, we didn’t get out of the house until after 1:00pm. I thought that maybe we should find a place rather close to home instead of investing in a long drive so late in the day. Also, initially, I had thought we’d get lunch at Subway or KFC to take on the picnic. But since I had a prescription to pick up at Smiths, I thought maybe we could pick up some chicken or subs there instead. I mentioned these ideas to Kile and he seemed agreeable.Of course, we get to Smiths and I go get my prescription and when I meet back up with the boys, they’re in the deli meat section. Kile thought we’d make the sandwiches instead. Which… I’m still not sure why. Because we had to buy mustard and mayonnaise too and I don’t think we saved that much money. But oh well. Whatever. Another example of him agreeing with me and then just going ahead and doing whatever the hell he wants. He’s famous for that.
We pile back into the van (did I mention we brought Beetoe? NEVER AGAIN. Whiny, whiny little dog.) and hit the road. I asked where were going to go that was close. Kile said he thought we’d go to Plumas State Park, which is near Graeagle, California. Okay, not so much with the closeby. This is roughly 50 miles away. Not terribly far, but when you consider it’s a round trip, that’s 100 miles which is a bit farther than I was hoping to go that late in the day. I told him I didn’t really want to go that far, but guess what? We went anyway. Of course!Men.
It was all good. Though it was a bit of a journey, it wasn’t too bad actually. And it was beautiful up there. Harry got to pan for gold, so that was cool. We even stopped for ice cream on the way home.

Will is so totally going to win Big Brother 7. It’s hysterical. And I just want to smack Erika for setting the feminist movement back twenty years. Not that the way Mike is treating her is good, because it’s not. But come ON girl… have some dignity!? (editor note: Okay, so I was wrong.? Will was voted out.? Boo!? But at least those girls FINALLY got half a brain between the two of them!)

FYI: I’ve posted what measly videos we have of Liam up on the blog here under “Videos”. You’ll notice the buttons at the top; just click the one that looks like a film strip and voila. Alternatively, you could go to the bottom of the page and pick Videos from the menu or the footer links. THREE ways to get there and all the cuteness you can take. What are you waiting for??

Now that the dust is starting to settle a bit around here, I need to start thinking about how I’m going to get this house back into shape. There’s so many things on the list of “Must Do”, it’s not even funny. The dishes have been beaten back and their ranks depleted. There is only now the smallest herd of them residing in the one side of the split sink. Of course, this isn’t to indicate that the kitchen is in any way CLEAN. The counters need some serious attention. We did some big time grocery shopping on Saturday and the rest of the non-perishables need to be put away. The kitchen table needs to be cleaned off once and for all. The floor swept. I did buy a bottle drying rack this weekend and it’s been working very well so far. So that’s something.
There’s also a coffee table in the garage that I’d let to get in the living room. Kile doesn’t like that the top of it is rather beat up. I could probably care less right now. But he wants to paint them, maybe put on a tile surface. Sooo… since he always gets his way, we’ll have to get that done first. I need to vacuum the living room too. Ever since Harry’s been in school, he’s been bringing home tanbark shards in his shoes every day. Which, ya know, is FANTASTIC.
Wow, I can’t even talk about my bedroom without cringing. It’s just THAT BAD.
So yeah, I’ve got my work cut out for me. But when that’s done? Time to work on getting this BODY back into shape. Because while I have lost 18lbs (as of last week) since having Liam, I have a long way to go with the little roll of fat in my midsection!

Your weekend sounds like fun!
I hear ya on the miles-long must do list. Have you checked out http://www.flylady.net? It’s a pretty long (and I think pretty disorganized) website, but their system helped me overcome the dread that paralyzed me every time I looked at my dissheveled home.

Sonja - Flylady scares me. I’ve tried to do her a couple times and it’s just TOO MUCH. Plus, her rules kinda frighten me. Albeit, I do have to get dressed down to my shoes every morning (but no laces here, I’m a flip flop wearer) to take Harry to school. But shining the sink every night? Eek!

I pick and choose from her stuff - not a lace-up shoe person, either.

Sonja - See, and I’ve always thought that if I didn’t follow everything then I’d follow nothing. I’m sorta neurotic that way. Someone needs to come up with a fly lady lite program.
