Television Madness

by Marilyn on November 14, 2006

I realize I haven’t spoken about tv yet this week. And, knowing me, making it to Tuesday without talking about television is quite a feat. I can’t help it, I love my tv. So let’s dish, shall we?

Desperate HousewivesFirst off, “Desperate Housewives” on Sunday was pretty good, but not near as good as last week. I sorta felt like it was back to boring old “DH”. There were some interesting highlights, and the startling discovery Lynette made about their new neighbor at the end was particularly horrifying, but for the most part the episode was pretty blah. Psycho mother in law? Haven’t we seen that one already? Rebellious teenager? Been there, done that. It was kinda nice, I’ll admit, to see Gabby get knocked down a peg or two over the whole modeling thing. She’s been behaving so obnoxiously that she was wide-open for that one. And, is it just me or is Mike like infinitely more wooden now that he’s Post-coma Mike? It’s like watching a piece of cardboard trying to act. Yikes! At any rate, let’s hope that next week amps up the drama.

Phil from Amazing RaceSunday, now that I think of it, was sort of a bummer night for tv in general. “Amazing Race” was less than fantastic, I felt. Maybe it was the lack of Mary and David. I don’t know. But I had a hard time getting interested in what was going on. I like the Cho brothers, and the Bama girls. The beauty queens bug the heck out of me. The druggie models… meh. And the fact that it was one of those “there’s no pitstop tonight!” episodes made it extra pointless. Hopefully something juicy and exciting will happen next week. Like one of the BQ’s falling into a farming implement or something. That’d be fun.

HeroesI’m starting to REALLY enjoy Monday nights though. “Heroes” alone makes that night incredibly enjoyable. And last night was very, very good. I’ve got mixed emotions about Mr. “Face of Evil”, a.k.a. Claire’s dad. (Why can’t I remember his last name??) I mean, I’m sure he’s a horrid guy, but last night all I saw was concern about his daughter. At least, I think that’s all it was. Oh, and the poor waitress? Yowza… I hope Hiro is okay, having gone back to try to save her. He was at her birthday party? What? I feel a little more light was shed last night, however I can tell that the big focus is next week’s show. Save the cheerleader! I can’t wait to see what happens, because it looks completely and totally awesome. Why can’t it be Monday tomorrow?? (How many times can you say that and mean it? Not many.)

And “Studio 60″ was okay last night too. I enjoyed it, maybe not as much as last week but more than the weeks before so that’s a step in the right direction. I liked seeing everything get tied up neatly though I have to admit I honestly don’t see what the big deal is about Jordan saying (ages ago) that she didn’t want to have kids or employ anyone who had kids. But maybe I’m just out of the loop on that one. There was a lot that was entertaining in last night’s episode, and that made me happy. I’ve been considering cutting it out of my tv schedule due to lack of interest (along with “The Nine” and “Ugly Betty”), but I may keep trying it a while longer.

HouseTonight I’ve got “House” (LOVE!) and “Firday Night Lights.” I wish I loved “FNL” more than I do. I feel like I’m missing something. It’s just… not that interesting to me. Of course, it’s entirely possible that I’m missing my soul so you must take that into account as well. In a couple weeks, “Big Day” is premiering and I GOTTA watch that one. All the commercials look hysterical.
Now, tomorrow… there is no “Lost”. And I’m deeply, deeply saddened by that. Especially since last weeks “fall finale” was pretty dull and uninteresting in the grand scheme of things. The only thing I enjoyed there was seeing Nathan Fillion as Kate’s husband. However, it did just make me wish for the umpteenth time that “Firefly” was still on the air. God, I love that show. So. Good. Anyhow, where was I? Oh yes, Wednesday night. There’s “Jericho” which… I guess I’d be sad if it were cancelled. But it’s not THAT great. I’ll be interested to see how this week’s show ends up, what with those mean ol’ mercenary’s coming to town. I suppose I’ll give that new show, “Daybreak” a chance. The premise is interesting and I like the fact that it’ll air for the 13 weeks “Lost” is off the air and be all tied up by then.

George from Grey's AnatomyLast but not least: Thursday. No longer “must see tv” night, I fear. They can thank “Lost” and “Desperate Housewives” for that one. I do enjoy “Grey’s Anatomy” though, even though my husband thinks it’s awful. To be honest, I don’t really care for Meredith. I think she’s whiny and selfish. But the rest of the clan is great and I love seeing them work out their issues week in and week out. Last Thursday was interesting, with all the men on the camping trip. The camping trip that could have (and should have) gone better than it actually did. I like Bailey ripping Christina a new one though. Heck, I like Bailey ripping anyone a new one. That’s good times, right there.

That should finish up my tv roundup. Whew! Dang, I do watch a lot of tv, don’t I?
