I guess, taking the title of this site into account, it should come as no surprise that I’m way unprepared for the holiday season.? Imagine my shock when I discovered on Sunday that Thanksgiving was THIS WEEK.
No.? Way.
Thankfully, we planned ahead on that one and had a turkey in the deep freeze and most of the other ingredients purchased already.? Save for some green onions and those French’s fried onion thingies that you use in green bean casserole which I purchased today.? (Speaking of which, what the heck aisle in the supermarket do you find those??? Supermarkets do us a disservice by placing them handily on the endcaps.? Because I still have no idea where in the store I’d go to find them.? Cheapskate that I am, I wanted to see if the store had any generic substitution.? But we’ll never know because it’s not like I could find them.)
So we’re doing the whole Turkey Day thing here at home.? Alone.? It’s kinda weird, but cool at the same time.? We’re set to have turkey, cranberry sauce, rolls, stuffing, green bean casserole, pumpkin pie and… mashed potato casserole.? OMG, ya’ll, that stuff is mad crack.? I’m so excited.? And just thinking about the turkey sandwiches we’ll get to have the next day (and the next, and the next, and the next…)? makes my mouth seriously water.
Of course, I’m a little anxious becuase once Thanksgiving is over, it’ll be hard to deny that it’s the Christmas season.? And the lack of preparation for this is sort of freaking me out.? We are sorta dirt poor this year and I’m having a hard time figuring out what we’ll be able to afford, present-wise.? First and foremost are the boys; Harry in particular.? But we have a lot of other kids to buy for, as well as the names we drew in both our families Christmas exchange.? I stress about this every single, gosh darned year.? You’d think I’d have either a good strategy for it, or just have learned to deal with it by now.? But I guess not.
Oh well, I have another day or two to ignore that whole issue altogether.? Hey, at least the lack of fundage right now means I won’t have to worry about getting to the mall at the crack of dawn on Friday and endure the waves of obnoxious shoppers.? That’s a good thing, right?
