A good day with the family

by Marilyn on December 3, 2006

Wow, I took more than just one day off posting there, didn’t I?? My bad. I meant to post yesterday.? Lord knows, I had the time.? We did nothing all day long.? Absolutely nothing.? And let me tell you, it was as wonderful as it sounds.? Last week was so nuts that I needed a day off.

Friday night we had some friends over for dinner.? That may not be a big deal for the average couple but for us?? Monumental.? We just don’t have that many friends who live near us.? And we almost NEVER entertain.? For one thing, our house has been too much of a sty in the last several months.? So Friday was spent alternately stressing, cleaning and stressing and then cleaning some more.? And then stressing.? Add in taking care of a strangely fussy baby (he’s usually not), and Friday was red-letter.? My favorite part was finding out at 10am that it was actually a half-day at school and that Harry would be getting out of school at 12:50.? Good thing I found out, or the poor kid would have been stranded! Anyhow, the party/dinner went off without a hitch and we all had a really good time.? It was the parents of one of Harry’s friends at school so the boys had a great time playing too.? Kile made a fantastic tri-tip roast that was just to die for.

Today we had a lot of things planned.? Church, lunch, haircut, Santa… It was actually a good time all around.? Harry had his first professional haircut today at Fantastic Sams (up till now Kile has cut it) and that went great.? While the boys did that, I took Liam over to Ulta, which was in the same shopping center.? I hadn’t gone there before and had always sort of scoffed at it when we drove past.? I considered my loyalty to Sephora to be paramount and Ulta was a poor imitation, in my book.? But now, having been in there, I admit to being wooed by their incredible inventory.? Seriously, that store had EVERYTHING.? Sephora wins the aesthetic vote, but Ulta is good for overall variety.? They even have a full-service salon in there!? Sweet!? Coupled with the fact that there’s a DSW Shoes next door, and I bet many a pretty penny is spent in that shopping center.? I’m sure I’ll be returning, and hopefully with some change in my pocket.

Then we hit the mall.? I know, I know.? But I decided if we were going to have to do it (and we did, for the obligatory Santa visit), this was the weekend to do it.? From here on out, the mall is off limits on the weekends.? Maybe a quick trip during the week after lunch or something, but no more on the weekends because OH MY GOD.? I hate people.? The Santa visit went well and the line wasn’t horribly long so we did pretty well.? Even though Liam looked a little perplexed to be placed on this strange guy’s lap.? Poor kid.? We also browsed at some stores, got Liam a stocking at Sears (which he proceeded to gnaw upon, forever branding it as his own) and test drove some high chairs and car seats.

Waiting to see Santa ?

First Visit with Santa?? Test Drive

All in all, a productive sort of day.? And if I can leave the mall at Christmastime and have a feeling of warm satisfaction, you have to consider that a miracle all in its own.
