The Best Birthday Present

Majestic High Chair by EvenfloI’m sure you’re all sick by now of hearing of our budget woes.? But the woes!? They are woeful!? And… budgety! Seriously though, we’re just barely going to make it this month.? And it’s causing no small amount of stress around these parts.? Particularly for poor Kile, who bears the brunt of the bill-paying, wage-earning yoke around these parts.? It can’t be easy to worry about not only Christmas presents but your wife’s birthday all in one month.? Add in a road trip to San Jose for Christmas (which will include a $50 gas fill-up in order to get there), boarding a dog, hosting a small Christmas party/dinner… well, you’d be stressed too.

Part of our “plan” this year, is to get Liam a high chair as a present from us for Christmas.? He needs one desperately and while holding him on our laps while we eat dinner has been tons o’ fun, a high chair would make mealtime a lot more enjoyable for everyone.? I’ve made some money with my blog design goodness.? Enough that it has helped us purchase a good majority of our Christmas gifts this year.? There was a bit left over that I was under the assumption we would be purchasing the high chair with.? Yesterday we went to scope out Babies R Us to see if they had any good deals there as opposed to Sears.? We found a great chair there, the “Majestic” by Evenflo (hysterical name for a high chair, if you ask me).? Kile loved it, Liam loved it, I loved it… sounded like a done deal to me.? But Kile was resistant to purchasing it at that particular moment.? He wanted, I think, to make sure we could make it through the month before shelling out so much $$.? The way I figured, we were going to get one anyhow, better to get it now while we had the $$.

To make a long story short (is it too late for that?), he let me know that if we got it, it would use up whatever money he had planned to spend on my birthday present. I realized I was more than happy to give up any sort of birthday celebration in order to get the high chair.? Not only does the little pumpkin need a high chair, but how awesome a present would this high chair be?? For me!? Last year, and so many years before, I would have given my right arm to be able to purchase a high chair for my birthday or any other occasion.? To have a baby to put in that chair.? And now I have that baby.? And the opportunity to use my birthday to further revel in baby-dom is more than I could have ever hoped for in years past. I know Kile was disappointed and frustrated, but I couldn’t have been more pleased to cart that high chair out of the store.

And that is why this high chair is the best birthday present I’ve ever received.
