Schedules

by Marilyn on January 11, 2007

Remember back on Monday when I was having a mini-meltdown and I said I was going to post about it and then I didn’t?? Those were good times.? So far the rest of this week has gone rather smoothly.? The schedule hasn’t been too off-kilter at any one time.? Not like it was on Monday.? See, the average weekday’s schedule goes something like this:

  • 7:30 - Kile is out of the shower and dressed so he wakes me and Liam up.? We go downstairs and Kile changes Liam’s diapers while I wash out bottles and the pump parts and start to pump.? We eat cereal for breakfast while Liam plays in the exersaucer. Kile also makes Harry’s lunch.
  • 8:00 - Kile leaves for work, I’m still pumping.? I’m posting to my 451Press blogs and Liam is still happy in the saucer.? Harry is up and dressed for school and getting his own breakfast, bless his heart.
  • 8:15 - I’m done pumping, still posting to the blogs.? If Liam is hungry or tired of the saucer, I have him with me on my lap.? Harder to post with him there, but I try my best.
  • 8:50 - Leave to take Harry to school.? Bundle Liam into the carseat, make sure Harry’s coat is buttoned.? Drive down to school and drop Harry off.? Come back home.
  • 9:10 - Feed Liam some more and then put him down for a nap.? Take a shower.
  • 9:30 - Escape downstairs, sans baby.? Finish up 451Press blog posts if I didn’t before.? Read email, catch up on some blog posts, work on some design work.
  • 11:00 - Liam is up from his nap.? I bring him downstairs to play.? If he’s hungry, I give him some milk.
  • 11:30 - Put Liam in the ‘Sauce and I pump again.? Work on design work.
  • 12:00 - Eat lunch, free time on the internet.? Play with Liam, change diapers, give jarred baby food, etc.
  • 1:00 - Back to work.? More design work, Liam plays some more.
  • 1:30 - Liam goes down for another nap.? More design work for me.? Maybe work in some laundry or dishes or some other chore here.
  • 3:00 - Liam is up and we go to get Harry from school.? Have to leave early to get a “prime” spot in the circle at school.
  • 3:40 - Back home with Harry.? Feed Liam and then put him in the ‘Sauce or in the Pack n Play.? Harry plays with him a little.
  • 4:00 - Pumping, again.? More design work, but more fun stuff mixed in. I’m getting tired of work for the day.
  • 4:30 - Does Liam want another nap?? If so, I put him down but usually he doesn’t.
  • 5:00 - Liam sits on my lap while I try to finish up some last minute work for the day. Try to avoid him slapping at the laptop.
  • 6:00 - Simpsons is on!? Liam wants some milk.
  • 6:30 - Kile is home by now (usually).? He starts to make dinner and I join him in the kitchen to help and/or chat about the day.? Liam sits in the high chair to watch us.
  • 7:00 - Kile and I take turns feeding Liam some jarred food while we eat dinner.
  • 7:30 - Tell Harry to get ready for bed, change Liam and finish him off with plenty of milk.
  • 8:00 - Kile takes Liam up to lay him in bed, also reads to Harry.
  • 8:30 - Harry is in bed and if Kile hasn’t fallen asleep getting Liam to bed, he comes back down stairs.? We watch tv and kick up our feet.
  • 9:00 - I pump for the last time that day.
  • 11:00 or so - We go to bed.? Liam stirs when I come in so he gets yet MORE milk.? Generally takes a long drink here, sometimes gets him through the night and sometimes it doesn’t. Whew!? Long day!

So there you go.? What happened Monday is that Liam woke at 6 and not 7:30 and it threw off the whole day.? He was ready for his nap at very inopportune times (when we had to go shuttle Harry to or from school or when I had to pump, etc) and as a result, didn’t nap much at all.? So he was crabby.? Then I was crabby.? And I felt overwhelmed and about ready to jump out a window.

Of course, now that I’ve vocalized the schedule, it will change.? Because as much as I’d like to think that I rule the schedule, it’s truly Liam that dictates what’s going to happen.? Some things are unavoidable like the pumping and shuttling Harry.? But naptimes are all Liam.? As most of you know, if a baby doesn’t want to sleep, they just aren’t going to sleep.? And that is truly the definition of hell.

Am I reading that right? Can you really pump and multitask at the same time. Talk about supermom!

You read correctly. :) With the double pump plus the “configuration” I have set up, its not so bad. I sit in a recliner, which helps because I’m not sititng so far forward. I turn the boppy around so it faces away from my body. This gives me someplace to set my laptop and “pushes” the pumps into place. I’m doing it right now! LOL!

Wow! I don’t think I could do all of that and stay sane. I can’t imagine adding one of the kids being sick or you being sick into the mix of things. You must have lots of patience..

Ha! Ha ha ha ha ha! Yeah… not so much with the patience. I’m actually rather KNOWN for not having patience. But at least it’s apparent why little or no housecleaning gets done on a daily basis.

I love schedules…love them. And these kids..they never comply..little buggers. The worst is when you are so tired you need to sleep and someone else just crys and crys.
