Hail Friday!

by Marilyn on February 16, 2007

I’m so happy.  It’s Friday!  At long, long last!  That means by this time tomorrow I… actually… won’t be in Elko reuniting with my dear Harry.  But I’ll be on my way.  And hopefully a good portion of the way there!  I miss the little guy.  It’s been so unbelieveably surreal not to have him here, not to see him every day.  I don’t know how these parents who are divorced and share custody do it.  It must be hell.

ValentinesI had a great Valentine’s Day.   In the morning, I had a little coffee/playdate get-together with some of the moms I know from MOPS.  That was cute.  We drank coffee, nibbled on fruit and watched our kids play and get sugared up on chocolate cupcakes.  We also exchanged some very inexpensive Valentine’s gifts, which is always fun.  Plus, hey, more candy for me!  After that I drove over to the University to have lunch with Kile.  I gave him a balloon and some candy.  Aww.  That was when we discovered Liam is indeed sprouting his first tooth.  Hold me.  That evening, Kile left work a little early since we had reservations at the Macaroni Grill at 5:15.  It was either that or 8:15 and no WAY was I waiting that long for dinner.  So 5:15 worked.  They have a new deal there with a three-course menu.  Kile ordered the very reasonably priced “Trio Milano” which included their Pasta Milano.  I was a little extravagant and ordered the “Lobster Ravioli Trio”.  Kile’s was VERY yummy and we deemed it to be a “poor man’s” Penne Rustica which is quite possibly our favorite dish of theirs.  A lot of the same flavors but more inexpensive. Mine?  Heaven.  I’m a big lobster fan anyhow.  The shrimp on top helped too.  The butter sauce nearly killed me, it was that good.  Besides the Caeser salad we started with, we also got some decadant chocolate cake to finish everything off.  I barely remember it because I just inhaled the poor thing.

We were able to catch a movie afterward.  We wanted to see a movie sometime this week, while Harry is gone, and have the opportunity to pick something that has neither super-heros or cartoon characters in it.  I wanted to see something Oscar nominated.  We were thinking about “Blood Diamond”, but then I had this huge urge during dinner to see “The Queen”, so we saw that instead.  And really?  It was GOOD.  I mean, it was a LOT funnier than I expected it to be.  And the performances were fantastic.  The scenery?  Breathtaking.  VERY good movie and I can see why Helen Mirren is such a front-runner.  She was perfect.  I can’t imagine the royals are too happy with the flick, but it was very intriguing.  I kept thinking of it and dreaming of it all night long, which is usually an indication that I really liked a movie.

The pup is doing well, still has the occassional accident inside but if I’m really vigilant and watch her like a hawk, I can get her outside pretty much every time.  And she’s getting a lot better about going on the leash.  She’s been sleeping in her kennel at night and has slept through the night two nights in a row!  I never would have expected that.  She’s learning the rules of the house and Beetoe is warming up to her.  They’re playing together alot more now.  I can’t wait to see how Harry interacts with the puppy.  A new name we’re considering: Charlie.  Hehe.  I will admit, “Lost” was a factor in us coming up with that one.

Speaking of TV, “Grey’s Anatomy” was beyond good last night.  I mean, I started getting teary eyed.  At “Grey’s Anatomy”.  Can you believe it?  That just doesn’t happen?  I don’t really care for Meredith and by association, McDreamy.  But Derek’s reactions to Meredith were heart-wrenching.  Let’s not forget George imploring Callie to help him id the boy he’s supposed to find for one of his patients.  Also?  The interns breaking down outisde Meredith’s trauma room and Izzy trying to bolster them up and her little speech to George about his marriage being a mistake was amazing too.  Dang, but that was good TV right there.  I turned to “ER” afterward as I usually do, and the entire show seemed so much of a let-down after “Grey’s”.

Okay, I think that’s all I had to say.  Thanks for letting me ramble on like that.  We’ve got a big three-day weekend here (yay!) and I can’t guarantee I’ll post before Tuesday.  But keep an eye on my Flickr account because its very rare that I’m too busy not to send some pictures that way.
