I thought I was so smart. Wednesday mornings where I have MOPS are usually just this side of insane. I need to get up, take a shower, pump milk, make my 451press posts and get both kids ready to go. Thankfully, THANKFULLY, Kile is here to help out. He can’t shower or pump for me so getting the kids going generally falls in his lap. So this morning, I thought I was on top of it. I made the posts for 451press last night and future posted them so it would be taken care of. One less thing, right? And since Kile was in with Liam this morning, when the alarm went off I went in and got him up. Then I hopped in the shower while he used the bathroom. That way, by the time he was out of the bathroom, I was out of the shower and he could get his. Doing great, right? Keep reading…
I get downstairs to pump shortly after 7am, which is right on schedule. I get pumping and even have a chance to browse some blogs. Turns out, we’re even ahead of schedule. I was hoping to leave the house at ten after 8 but by 8 am, we were getting our shoes on and getting ready to go? Why so early? (We normally leave closer to 8:30) I’m in charge of the newsletter and Kile forgot to print it out for me yesterday since I have yet to purchase replacement ink cartridge. So we had to stop by his office and print those out. We also needed to stop by Krispy Kreme and pick up a dozen of their whole wheat glazed donuts since I signed up to bring a “bread” item this week (hey, they’re whole wheat and have carbohydrates, that’s bread in my book). We also needed to drop Harry at his friends house, as his mother walks him down to school on the Wednesdays I have MOPS.
Can you see where this is going yet? If so, you’re a better (wo)man than I. Right as we were putting those shoes on, the phone rang. It was Harry’s friend’s mom. His friend was sick with a nasty, nasty flu bug. Obviously, dropping Harry off there wasn’t an option. So what do we do? School starts at 9:10. I generally drop him off at 9:00, which is when the school says we should drop them off (no one watching the playground before then). However, MOPS starts at 9:00. And being that I need to pass out newsletters, I should be there earlier (plus, as a steering team member I need to help set up tables and whatnot anyway and should be there at least by 8:45). So we can’t really take him to school ourselves and then be late. Mostly because Kile needs to be there to watch the two year olds like he promised he would, and I need to deliver my “bread” since the breakfast portion of the meeting comes first. And what about printing those newsletters out? And getting the “bread”? I realized there were two choices. No MOPS and let some people down or take Harry out of school for the day and take him with us.
So we took him with us. Kile wasn’t that happy about doing it, but I couldn’t think of a better solution. And I have a distinct feeling that it makes me a Very Bad Mother. So yeah. Not as on top of things as I thought I was.
