Because you care what I think

Posted on June 13th, 2007

In the absence of anything of note happening around the house these days (other than my daily threats to disembowel Harry if he pesters me ONE MORE TIME (when does school start back up again??)), I decided to give my 2 cents on some of the current events and pop culture nightmares that have been circulating the news lately. The mere fact that some of this stuff is news in the first place is outrageous enough. And so that’s how I know you are very interested in what I have to say about it all.

  • Lindsay Lohan scares me. I really, honestly feel as if I’m watching someone go down a path that they cannot recover from. I hate to think that because the poor thing isn’t even 21 years old yet. And it sounds as if she’s messed up beyond all reason. I think back to when I first saw the Parent Trap remake and how I thought she was so cute and quite talented. And now she’s out of control, suicidal and lord knows what else. It sounds as if she has a death wish and I think its so sad that no one around her right now seems to care enough to try to help her. I certainly hope she beats the odds and rebounds from all this, but it seems more and more unlikely.
  • I’m so glad Paris is back in jail. I think it’s downright goofy how much media attention the whole thing has gotten though. No, she needs to spend her time in jail. And OUT of the public eye for a change. I’d like to think the whole experience will redeem her but after hearing her claim redemption after less than a week doesn’t fill me with too much hope. I think once she’s out of jail she’ll just go right back to being the same self-entitled party girl she’s always been.
  • And it’s easy to see where she gets it too. I mean, not that we can exactly expect her parents to stand in line with all the rest of the peasants visiting people in jail, but please. They could have been a little more subtle, don’t you think? But really, what exactly do we expect of the Hiltons? I’m frankly sick of hearing about them.
  • I don’t understand how Britney can post on her website these long letters about being misunderstood and about trying her best to just live her life in a clean way and then go and flash the world her underwear. (Hey, at least she was wearing underwear this time) And if she truly is trying to reconcile with K-Fed as some of the rumors are insisting, then I’ll just give up on her altogether. Not that I have much hope for her right now. She sorta lost me with the whole “walking into gas station bathrooms barefoot” thing from a couple years back. YIKES.
  • Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End wasn’t as bad as I thought it’d be. I really didn’t care for Dead Man’s Chest all that much. In fact, by the end of the movie I felt so disillusioned and annoyed that I may have to say I hated it. But World’s End wasn’t that bad. It was actually pretty good. Kile says he think it was the best of the three. I don’t know if I’d go THAT far, but it was a vast improvement over the second flick.  There’s an extra scene that they show after the credits that sort of helps to tie everything up with a nice little bow, so if you’re thinking of going to see it, be prepared to hang around after it’s over.  It felt like everything came full circle at the end, all the stories cycled back around and came to a familiar place and I liked that.  I’ll definitely be seeing it again, but maybe not until DVD.  It’s pretty difficult to get to the movies these days, even if they are at the drive-in.

So that’s that.  Aren’t you glad you cared?
