I make no mystery of the fact that I don’t do so well with summer. I don’t like being hot, for one. And that’s a big part of summer. There are so many wonderful things about summer too, but the heat thing sorta trumps them all, as far as I’m concerned. Am I so not suited to live in Nevada or what? Anyhow, with that said, it’s important to find the wonder in summer as it is indeed upon us and I better enjoy it or it’ll be twice as long. I found this meme somewhere, I don’t remember where. When it’s hot out, the memory is the first thing to go.

Chose one:

• Pool OR Jacuzzi: Jacuzzi all the way. I like both and have been swimming since the dark ages. But nothing beats a good soak in a hot tub. I’d give my left lung for a hot tub.
• Ocean OR Pool: Hmm. For actually swimming in, I’d say pool. For enjoying and sitting beside? OCEAN. Hands down.
• Ice cream OR Popsicles: Ice cream. Oh yes, ice cream. I don’t have much patience for Popsicles unless they taste really really really good.
• Lemonade OR Iced tea: Lemonade, though I’ve been known to go the Arnold Palmer route and get them both together. And then I add sugar because I need my beverages to be insanely sweet.
• Tennis shoes OR Flip flops: Flip flops, or rather THONGS as we always used to call them. At least, that was before thongs meant something else entirely. Grr. But anyhow, I love my flip flops. I need a new pair.
• Fans OR Air conditioning: There’s no question here. A/C, baby! I don’t know how we don’t have central air here because I think without a/c I’d just melt into a puddle and drain away into the carpet.
• Sprinklers OR Slip n slide: Sprinkler, though I’d probably avoid that as much as I could too. Though, I have to admit, on a really hot day, getting a sprinkling of water feels pretty damn good.
• Water balloon fight OR Water gun fight: water guns all the way. Though I’m not a big fan of either. Some of those water guns can hurt! And water balloons ALWAYS hurt.

What is your favorite summer…

• Drink: Pama Wanna (the aforementioned Arnold Palmer)
• Food: Banana splits, watermelon, hot dogs… it’s all good, baby.
• Song: song? Uh. I don’t think I associate any one song with summer. Maybe something by Jimmy Buffet.
• Hang out: The drive in! It’s not open in the winter and how else am I supposed to see a movie??
• Camp: I love Grover Hot Springs, but haven’t been there in about 8 years (eek!). I also love Davis Creek Park. I don’t foresee going to either this summer, though maybe we’ll make it to Frenchman’s next weekend. Maybe.
• Holiday: Please, 4th of July. Are there any other holidays during the summer months? Labor Day and Memorial Day so don’t count. Yeah, it’s hard to beat those fireworks.
• Vacation: It seems like every summer, the first week of August, we go to San Jose to visit my family. I think we’re doing the same thing this summer. It’s hardly a vacation but as close as we get to one around here these days.

I know what you did last summer:

• Where did you go: Ha! The hospital. I also went to San Jose (natch) to visit family and attend BlogHer.
• Who did you hang with?: Liam. I hung out with Zoot and Brit at BlogHer, which totally rocked.
• Did you do anything illegal: Doubt it. If I did, I wasn’t aware of it.
• Did you go to a concert?: You’re kidding, right?
• What was your best memory?: Liam’s birth. That might even be my best memory EVER (since I was under general for Harry’s birth and therefore have no memory of it). Thinking of it just makes me smile. I couldn’t have asked for a better day.

What’s happening this summer?

• Where are you going?: Ooh, I was waiting to be asked this! I am going to CHICAGO. Oh yes. BY MYSELF. On a PLANE. I’m going to BlogHer, ya’ll. I’m going to be staying at a super nice hotel and sharing a room with a super cool person and going to the totally awesome conference. I’m both scared out of my mind and excited beyond belief. And I’m going to miss my family like freakin’ CRAZY.
• Name five things you’re most looking forward to this summer:

  2. Reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
  3. Seeing Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
  4. Seeing Transformers (oh yes, I am) (I am a child of the eighties, remember)
  5. Watching Harry play soccer for the first time
• Name five things you’re most DREADING this summer:
  1. HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT
  2. Leaving my family for three+ days
  3. Harry starting the second grade (eek)
  4. Liam turning 1 year old (my BABY!)
  5. Did I mention the heat?
