So, what else is new?

by Marilyn on July 10, 2007

One might think the only things going on around here involve my puny baby and his first birthday. Well, they wouldn’t be half wrong, but there are some other things going on.  It is, after all, July and there is never any lack of interesting things going on during the month of July.  Shoot, if the weather was cooler this might be one of my favorite months of the year.

  • Alas, weather is not cool.  Weather is actually rather hot.  This has made for some smoky conditions in and around town.  Makes for a cool sunset, though.   We’ve had temperatures consistently in the 100’s and I’m pretty damned tired of it already.  And considering that our house doesn’t have central air, has made things around here rather annoying too.  This is the time when I hate living in Nevada.
  • Harry started second grade yesterday.  I don’t think I’ve fully been able to process that yet.  We walked down with our friends and he and his best friend/classmate looked just about as grown up and cool as they possibly could.  Of course, they looked decidedly less enthusiastic by the time they were lining up with the rest of their class.  What a difference from kindergarten, huh?  A lot of the same kids though.  And that’s both a good and a bad thing.  Oh, don’t get me started.
  • Too late.  I got started.  I would like to get Harry out of that school.  There’s a private school affiliated with our church that I’d like to send him to.  But if we did that, I’d have to get a job or something.  Right now, I’m considering maybe looking for something half time at the university.  I’d hate to have to leave Liam, but I don’t want to pretend like Harry’s school doesn’t suck the big one like it does either.  Lots of tough choices to make there.
  • The next “Harry Potter” movie comes out tonight/tomorrow.  I don’t know when/if we’ll be able to see it though, seeing as how we’re currently embroiled in a serious lack of fundage (shit, when aren’t we?).  But, I feel a little less nervous about that seeing as how I already know how that particular story turns out.  The book on the other hand… I should be getting it from Amazon.com right on the 21st.  SHOULD.  We pre-ordered but I don’t know if they already charged us for it or not.  If not, we may have a problem.  And then I might have to hurt someone.  I’m dying to read that book.  And if anyone spoils it for me, I will kill them.
  • And, to beat a slightly unconscious horse, I’m concerned about Liam and his weight.  I know we need to get him that toddler formula, but if we return the stuff we’ve already got and get more, well… we’ll be able to get about one can for what we paid for three.  And that’d last, oh, a week.  Why does toddler formula have to be SO EXPENSIVE?  They’re totally taking advantage of the fact that I don’t want my child to waste away and die.  Bastards.
