Okay, explain this to me. I’m 13 weeks pregnant today. Just a drop in the pan, in the grand scheme of pregnancy. In fact, if anything, I should start to feel pretty marvelous here soon, right? Everyone always says that the second trimester is when you feel your best.
So why do I feel so freakin’ awful right now? If I stand up too long (and “too long” is anything over about five minutes anymore), I start to feel faint and dizzy. The other day I literally had to put my head between my legs to keep from passing out. I have aches and pains in places I forgot could have aches and pains. Sleeping is getting near impossible at night as there is no position that is even remotely comfortable and half the time I have some appendage that is falling asleep, no matter what I do with it. Half the time I’m starving to death and the other half the time I’m repulsed by the very notion of food. My head throbs at various times of the day, mostly when I’m trying to use it. I’m distracted and sleepy and I’m never as happy as I am when I’m asleep. Waking up feels like ripping off my toenails one by one. Standing up after waking up feels even worse.
What the HECK? I’m not supposed to feel this way yet am I? I mean, the belly is barely a pooch right now. I can hardly notice it, much less anyone else. These are third trimester “The baby is due any minute now” type complaints. What I want to know is this: If I feel this way now, how am I going to feel in MARCH?
I’m scared, ya’ll.

Ah, hang in there. I do not think it is unusual to still feel so crappy. Also, keep in mind that your blood supply is going to increase by a third, so that may explain the dizziness. However, I think you should mention this to your doctor at the next visit if it continues.

I don’t mean to be a Debbie Downer here, but I was horrifically ill through all of my pregnancies. I vomited repeatedly on the way to the hospital with each baby and also threw up during labor.
I would bring it up with your dr. and find out if there is anything that will help.

Sorry you’re feeling so crap. I nearly passed out on the train to work the other day - I actually had to ask a man to stand up and give me his seat, which was embarrassing in an “oh my god I am an old lady” type way, and because I don’t yet look pregnant (just fat), so I’m sure he thought I was lying when I hit him with an overly long explanation of why I needed a seat. Anyway, just to reassure you, whilst my nausea has passed, I still feel like poo, just a different kind of poo. Baby doesn’t like most of the positions I sit or lie in, and even if I do find one it seems like it’s happy with, it changes it’s mind about 5 minutes later, usually as I’m just falling asleep. As I mentioned in my last comment, the gas is killing me, in a way that made my husband totally panic because he walked into the bathroom to find me curled up in a ball on the floor, moaning. The fact that I had my trousers round my ankles only added to the dignity of this image, I’m sure. I fall asleep on the couch at around 9pm most nights, and hate getting up at 7am the next day. And you are taking care of 2 kids in this situation? Seriously, I am in awe of you.

Officially delurking…
It’s probably all the mothering you’re doing along with growing another human being inside your body. I hope you feel better soon.
I enjoy reading your blog…

so sorry you aren’t feeling well! I’m not pregnant..yet, but I’m dreading the moments of not being able to drink, or eat lots of yummy sushi. I hope that you get to sleep or rest a bit soon.
