So Liam had his 15 month checkup today. He feels like he’s heavier, to both of us, so we were sure he’d put on weight. So much so that we were taking bets on the drive over to the doctor’s office this afternoon. I thought he would have broken into the 25th percentile for height and weight and Kile went so far as to predict 25th percentile for height and 50th percentile for weight. And?
Not so much.
He’s not as tiny as he was and he is moving up the chart and following the curve if nothing else so that’s something. Here’s the stats:
- Length: 30 1/2 in (30th percentile) compared to 28 1/2 in and 10th-25th percentile for 12 months.
- Weight: 21 lbs 14 oz (20th percentile) compared to 20lbs 4oz and 10th-25th percentile for 12 months.
So the length is definitely getting better, if not the weight. The doctor wasn’t concerned, though. He could tell just looking at Liam that he’s healthy, he’s got good muscle tone and he’s got some decent pudge around the middle. It was the pudge that fooled us, though. We thought FOR SURE he was pushing 25lbs. Not so much.
If anything, the doctor was more concerned that Liam wasn’t talking. Well, he’s talking but he was hoping for actual words. And Liam isn’t even doing “mama” or “dada” or anything. The child babbles ALL. THE. TIME. He’s just speaking his own little language. I haven’t been too nervous about it because Harry wasn’t a big talker either. He didn’t really start breaking out and talking until he was three years old. And now look at him! Mr. 8th Grade Reading Level. The doctor said we’d keep an eye on him, see how he was doing at 18 months, and if we’re getting close to two years and he’s still not talking, then maybe do some early intervention. Me? Still not worried.
So my little guy is still a little guy. But he’s doing just fine otherwise. Have I mentioned that he took his first steps this last week? Yep. He did. He totally rocks.
