Sunday Night Reflections

by Marilyn on December 9, 2007

God Bless the weekend, is all I can say.  I think we should have it officially extended past two days because two days is WAY too few.  I’m just getting into things by Sunday and then it’s all over.  It’s with particular somberness that I greet the week ahead this evening.  Even though there are a number of great things going on this week to look forward to (including a doctor appointment, a MOPS Christmas party and my birthday), I’m sad to see this weekend end.  And it’s not that it was a particularly exciting weekend, it was just satisfying.

I will illustrate this “satisfying-ness” to you in bullet-form.  (You’re welcome.)

  • It snowed on Friday.  I mean… it snowed.  As in, “Let’s get into the holiday spirit already!” kind of snow.  We got about 4-6 inches and it pretty much all STUCK.
  • It snowed again, a little, Saturday night.  Bringing the total piled up outside our door to 8-10 inches.  Freakin’  awesome, yo.  Sure, our cul-de-sac had some pretty gnarly road conditions (always does when it snows), but the rest of town wasn’t too bad.  At least, if you know how to DRIVE (which some people obviously don’t).
  • We left the house yesterday.  I know, I was surprised too.  I wasn’t expecting to, but Kile wanted to go to Walmart and I went along with it.  It wasn’t too bad (not too good either, but we lived).  Plus, Harry and I were able to talk Kile into stopping at McDonald’s because I was dying of hunger and Harry was dying of thirst.  I scored a snack wrap and an apple pie out of the deal, so I was pleased.
  • We took a spur of the moment tour of residences past.  Have you ever done this?  Drive by places you used to live and point them out to the kids and wax poetic about the “good old days” when you used to live there?  Lucky for us (and our gas tank), three of the four places we lived before our current house were all in the same apartment community.  There were some good times there.  Our last apartment there was damn near perfect.  Kile and I both agreed that the only thing wrong was the lack of yard.  Of course, now that we have a yard that amounts to about a 1/2 acre of dirt and weeds, having a yard doesn’t seem as a great a thing anymore.  We drove by the house we used to rent as well and were annoyed to see how NICE it looked now.  Of course, we think it’s been sold and someone actually owns it and lives there now.  But dang, they got a new mailbox, fixed the lawn and painted the house (it’s no longer pink!).  Dangit!  I miss living over in that neighborhood.  Someday, man.  Someday.
  • We actually went to CHURCH this morning.  And not Sparks Church.  South Reno Church.  There’s a distinction.  Harry was disappointed it wasn’t Sparks Church, since he has friends there.  But I missed South Reno Church.  And it was fun to see some people there that I haven’t seen in a while along with some of my buddies from MOPS.
  • We went to Target after grabbing a bite to eat at Wendy’s.  Yeah, TARGET.  And it wasn’t too bad, Christmas season and all.  It made me wish desperately that we had a Target more convenient to where we live to shop at because pretty much everything in that store is freakin’ AWESOME.  Their Christmas decorations alone had us repeating “After Christmas, when they have the sales, we’re so getting that” like broken records.  LOVE.  It hurt to walk out empty-handed.
  • Discovered at Target that I’m getting to the point in this pregnancy where I need to start using the handicapped stall because it’s getting hard to find room between me and the stall door to close it without squishing my belly.  Gah.
  • I even got to spin through Ulta and ooh and ahh at all the pretty stuff.  I would love to have a shopping spree in that store.  All the prettys would be MINE.  Especially that makeup kit they have for $20 that I want so bad it hurts.
  • I notice that there is no “Desperate Housewives” on tonight.  While that makes me happy that I won’t have to blog the episode, I won’t get to see what happened with the whole tornado thing last week.  And I still have to blog “Amazing Race” so it’s not like I get a total night off.  Dangit.
  • We’re having breakfast for dinner tonight.  ‘Nuff said.

I totally agree — the weekend needs to be at least three days long. I LOVE my job, and yet, I am NEVER ready for it to be Monday. I just need one more day.

Also, be careful what you wish for — we have three Targets in a 5-mile radius, and let me just say: Dangerous. I love me some Target, but I can’t get out of there without spending almost $100. Even if I just go for face wash. There are so many things that I NEED. It’s awful. Ditto Ulta where I have been known to go in for eye shadow and come out with a bag full of stuff. The best part about ulta though is that the ulta brand stuff is always buy-one-get-one-free.

And I have to say, I’m a little jealous of your snow, even though I hate cold weather. It was so hot here yesterday that I nearly turned on the AC while making stockings and wrapping presents. And that is just wrong.
