Hey! It’s my birthday today! I turn the Big 3-2 today, officially at 5:47pm (Pacific time! Is that that specific enough for you?). I never have minded having my birthday in December. As a child, my parents always did a good job separating it from Christmas and I never felt that anything was sacrificed simply because of the “big holiday” around the corner. In fact, I always felt that my birthday month was the coolest there was because it was just like one big month-long party. Think of it: birthday, then Christmas, then finished up with New Years! Does it get better than that? Plus, with the festive atmosphere, it almost feels like everyone is celebrating my birthday, getting into the holiday spirit. I love it.
However, as I have gotten older and had children, my birthday has definitely started to fall by the wayside. And, honestly, that’s true of most people’s birthdays as they get older. But when your birthday falls in December, I think it’s moreso. Add to that a tight budget, and it’s kind of more like “What birthday??”
Bah.
Eh, I’ll survive. There won’t be fabulous presents or a posh dinner out sans-kids. But I’m sure the day will be fun anyhow. Kile has the day off and there is MOPS to go to this morning so that’ll help everything feel rather festive, I’m sure.
Still, I can’t help but think that God could have helped me out with a no-cost birthday gift yesterday by getting this kid to show us the goods and he just TOTALLY dropped the ball.

Happy Birthday! Mine is Friday and I will be 40. Arg. My parents did a good job too but they had it a little more difficult as my younger brother shared my birthday. So they not only had to work at separating Christmas and both our birthdays, they had to separate my birthday from his…which they did very well. We had our own cakes, our own parties, and our own presents. Only once or twice did we get someone showing up with a puzzle saying it was for me AND my brother for our bithday AND Christmas.
