I did mean to post yesterday. I had a great topic in mind and everything. I still plan to post on that topic, but for whatever reason it just didn’t happen yesterday. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; this blog isn’t called “slackermama” for nothing. I did read a lot of blogs yesterday, if that counts.
Also, I must tell you that I’ve scaled back my posting at 451Press somewhat. I am still posting for Watching Reality TV, but I have since left Watching Desperate Housewives and Parenting Sites 411. I’m not too upset about leaving the “Desperate Housewives” blog, as it will be nice to watch it and not have to blog about it all the time. But I am sad to leave behind the parenting blog because I really did enjoy that format. But, time is money. Or in my case, sanity. And with the baby on the way, I doubt I’ll have the time to give all three blogs the attention they deserve. Plus, I need to leave my options open for other projects and if my time is squeezed, I’m unable to do that.
That said, I’ve decided to move a feature that I had over at the parenting blog to this blog right here. It’s the feature that I enjoyed the most, my “You Need to Read” weekly feature. On the parenting blog I posted it every Friday. Here, I plan to post it every Saturday (which is PERFECT and why didn’t I think of that before? After all, most people don’t post much on weekends but there are still those out there looking for blogs to read. Voila! Problem solved!). You may recognize most of the links as having been featured in my “What I’m Reading” sidebar section. As I come across these great posts in Google Reader, I share them and then once a week, go through and list them all in one post with a sentence or two about why the post spoke to me. And, as always, if you think I’m missing out on a great blog or a fabulous post, drop me an email or leave me a comment and I’ll go check it out because who doesn’t love to find more great goodies to read? I know I sure do! So without further ado…
- “Now I want you to just try to imagine how many times a day that I say ‘my thyroid’” from Joy Unexpected. To those of you who have been reading me since the dark ages, it’s pretty obvious why this post was important to me. I myself have a whacked out thyroid and know exactly how she’s feeling. I hope she’s able to get the support and help that she needs soon.
- “One bad apple” from All & Sundry. Linda gets firsthand experience with why so many parenting bloggers have been privatizing their children’s pictures on Flickr. Just thinking about this gives me the heebie jeebies.
- “No shit, sherlock” from sweet | salty. This is appalling. After all that Kate has been through this last year, some dumb troll had the nerve to accuse her of attention grabbing and snottily told her that she is “not strong”. She responds with grace as always and agrees because you definitely do NOT feel strong when you lose a child.
- “Bringing Santa Back” from hola, isabel. How cool! Her dad used to dress up as Santa Claus for Christmas! I can totally understand why she misses her dad indulging in this holiday festivity because how cool would it be to have Santa as your dad??
- “As stupid does” from All & Sundry. Yes, another post from Linda. This one made me shake with laughter as she recounted how clumsy and absent-minded this pregnancy is making her. Yes, I can definitely relate with that.
- “The one where Baskin Robbins almost caused a divorce” from moosh in indy. Casey never fails to make me laugh. In this one, she talks about a severe ice cream craving and how it caused a ripple effect snit between her and her husband. But, in actuality, it was more on her side than his. Have DEFINITELY been down this road.
- “So Hey, How’s THAT WHOLE THING Going?” from Amalah. While her discussion with her fertility monitor is hilarious, it’s also heartbreaking. I hope THAT WHOLE THING goes pretty good for her here in the future.
- “An in depth look at Blog Advertising” from Kerflop. This is a “must see” post for anyone who has any interest whatsoever in making money off their blog. I still want to know how she’s doing Google because I apparently STINK at making any money with it.
- “Water Line” from Oh, The Joys. She recently took a trip down to the Gulf Coast for business and while there, learned some heartbreaking stories from some Katrina survivors. Made me wish I was in a position to go down there and lend my efforts to the recovery.
- “I Held You in my Arms…” from Crunchy Carpets. I hate that this happens to people. You might think that since I have been through the same thing, that maybe I would welcome someone else in the club, someone else who understood my pain. But that is so far from the truth. I hate to see this happen to anyone and my heart aches for her.
- “The one where I admit to not loving my kid” from moosh in indy. Funny as she is, Casey has posted some awfully brave things the last several months. This post makes me ache for the obvious pain she must have gone through during those early months at home with her daughter. Obviously, things have since changed. But I applaud her for being able to talk about it now.
- “Family Emergency” from i am bossy. Oh. My. God. I don’t know how she did it. It’s easy to say that, but I think you do what you have to do. But to see your darling daughter go through something like that… well it weakens my knees to think of it. Her family has my prayers.
- “Just Like Me” from Boobs, Injuries and Dr. Pepper. This gal is SO FUNNY. This is a horrifying post (what’s with all the horrifying things happening to people lately??), but she somehow made me alternately gasp in horror and laugh out loud. That is just awesome.
- “Airplane Etiquette” and “Changed” from Lag Liv. First off, AMEN to the airplane post. If you all recall, I had a similar experience (minus the baby) on my trip back from Chicago this summer. I think they should just take those reclining seats out if they’re not going to give us more leg room because people think just because THEY CAN that THEY SHOULD. Secondly, another AMEN to her feelings on that gut-wrenching scene in “Cold Mountain”. Every time I watch that movie that scene makes me feel ill and I don’t relax until it is over. Being a parent really does change the way you view scenes like that.
And that, my friends, is all she wrote. At least for this week. This was a two week edition of YNTR, since I didn’t post it either here or at Parenting Sites 411 last week and I didn’t want some of these posts to be missed out on. Happy Reading!
