So I mentioned before that we were considering the name “Evelyn” for a girl. And we still are; I’ve had that name in my head for a girl for YEARS now and I still love it (though I won’t say that it’s written in stone yet). There’s only one small, teeny, inconsequential problem: I don’t know what middle name to use with it yet. When I was pregnant with Liam, the name was Evelyn Riley and that was that. Riley is a family name on my Dad’s side and I thought it sounded nice. This time around? We’re looking for something different. And we’d still like to use a family name, but we’re not limiting ourselves to that either. In the meantime, this debate has been going since we found out she was a girl with no easy solution in sight.
So I thought maybe you lot could help us out. I picked out the “most likely candidates” put together a poll that you can vote on. You can pick up to three selections if you so desire. And, if you think you know the perfect name to go with Evelyn and it’s not on my rather short list? Leave a comment here and let me know!
[poll=3]
Now, there are no guarantees we’ll use whatever name gets the most votes or any name mentioned in the comments. But it’s a possibility. At this point, we just need some help. I would have figured after all these boys, coming up with a girl’s name would be a piece of cake. But apparently not. So vote here in this post (or in the handy sidebar widget) and help us out! We’d like to have this nailed down sometime before 38 weeks.

I chose Lanae because it’s similar to my mom’s name.
Good lucking picking one you all like.

My sister wants her daughter to be named Evelyn Layelle. Although I’m not sure of the spelling on that middle name. She said it’s biblical, but I don’t remember where she found it in the bible. She chose Evelyn because our grandmother’s name is Doris Evelyn. She called dibbs and everything even though she’s not even pregnant yet. Or trying! My other grandmother is Willadene Olivette so needles to say my sister definitely got dibbs on the best name.
I voted for Evelyn Grace.

I love Evelyn Grace. It’s adorable.
IF I EVER get a girl? Lily. Her name is Lily.
“Lee” for the middle name. TOTALLY sentimental because Lily Lee is a bit silly, but I really don’t care.

Elizabeth is my favorite girl name. I also like Aimee (french spelling meaning friend)
Catherine is what we were going to use if we had a third girl…. Yes, Catherine from Beauty and the Beast.

I love love love the name Evelyn. It’s so pretty and classic. It’s hard for me to vote for the middle names not knowing if any of them are family names or have sentimental value. I’m a HUGE proponent of using names that MEAN something to you. So if one of those names is the name of your beloved grandmother or the name of an author who inspired you to change your life or.. whatever…then that name gets my vote, no matter what it is.
The good news is, I like every name on the list and I think they are all pretty paired with Evelyn. I don’t really think you can go wrong with any of them. That said, and assuming for a moment that none of these names have any family/personal history, here are a few thoughts.
Marie — This name was so popular and overused as a middle name during our generation that I think most people don’t even see it. It just fades into the background. (Just like Ann(e) and Lynn(e).)
Grace, Rose — these are the Maries of this generation. There’s nothing wrong with these names. On the contrary, both are beautiful and sweet. I love the old-fashioned, classic feeling. Unfortunately, so does every other person who has given birth in the last five years. I would say that 75% of the girls I know born since 2000 have the middle name Grace or Rose.
Patricia — I like this. You don’t hear it every day. Patrick is one of my all-time favorite boys names, so I like this by association.
Lanae — this is gorgeous. I absolutely love the flow of a three-syllable first name and a two-syllable middle name, especially when the emphasis is on the second syllable. Lanae is a nice alternative to Renee, which is pretty but seems very common (much like Marie, etc). I really love the flow of Evelyn Lanae. It’s definitely my favorite combination.
So there’s my two cents worth. Again, I think all of them make a lovely pairing. And if one of them is special to you, I would definitely go with that (even if it is a more popular name). If not, Lanae definitely gets my vote.
