Better late than never, right? I have NO idea why I didn’t get this posted this morning. Did I somehow forget it was a Saturday and therefore a YNTR day? Who knows. I blame the pregnancy. The important thing is I’m doing the list now. And instead of dragging this all out with excuses and guilt, I will get right into this week’s list (which is so delicious and wonderful it is well worth the wait).
- “I have felt like this for years about network news” by Plain Jane Mom. There were a lot of rather politically minded posts this week (must have been that primary), but this went beyond that and I agree. While I don’t think I can tolerate some of those shows and will shamefully admit that I do watch The Today Show, I admire her stating what has to be on a lot of people’s minds. When is the media going to wake up?
- “Hot Date on a Friday Night and How This Led to the Kum & Go” from Playgroups are No Place For Children. This post had me nearly in tears, I was laughing so hard. The really sad thing is it’s totally true. In smaller communities, the teens will gather where they will, oddly named gas stations or no.
- “A Very Unusual Blogiversary Post” from misszoot. The timing, it sucks. The situation, it sucks. Pretty much everything about it? Sucks. But she’s trying to make the best of a bad situation and I for one and rooting for her like nobody’s business.
- “Tales from Blimp City” from All & Sundry. Amen, Linda. I’m only barely 28 weeks and I’m feeling it big time. Those last weeks are just awful. I particularly enjoyed where she described how it felt as though the baby were trying to claw his way out. Mine is already doing the same thing, so I fear for the weeks ahead.
- “Home Again, Home Again Naked Jiggity Jig” from moosh in indy. Dear God. And this is exactly why I will NEVER travel alone with a toddler, EVER. I hate to say “never” because it generally bites you in the rear, but there is definitely a lesson to be learned from this story.
- “Shell shocked” from Running Stitch. Brit awesomely expressed a lot of the things I feel a lot. Being a stay at home mom means there isn’t a lot extra to do fun things with. But then, you realize that you don’t need a lot of money to do fun things with your kids. You just got to enjoy the moments you’re given, however they come to you.
- “Christmas Baskets 2007” from leahpeah. OMG, this is such a good idea. I’m going to definitely put this idea to work next year. I love that nearly everything that went in the basket was 100% homemade. How awesome.
- “Great moments in narcissism” from No Pasa Nada. This is something I’ve thought about several times and generally always around “BlogHer Time”. You think we women would cut each other some slack sometimes, knowing how hard it can be for each other.
- “Brothers” from Kerflop. This post reminded me of how great it is to have boys. There are times I wish mine were closer in age, of course. But it’s also a reminder of how wonderful it can be to have little boys in your life. And it does make me yearn for Harry’s “squish”, which is long gone by now and I miss it so much.
- “You Know Me. You Really, Really Know Me.” from Suburban Turmoil. Let me tell you, this post spoke to me so loudly that I’ve been thinking about it ever since. And I’m not NEAR as well-known as she is. Not very many of my real life acquaintances read this blog. But the question of what to say and what not to say is something I’m sure ALL of us have dealt with at some time or another. Sadly, there is no easy answer.
- “Run-on happy” from amalah. Awesomely, we can tell she’s just beside herself with excitement and joy. Even awesomer, we all feel that excitement and joy right along with her. Way to go, Noah!
- “As ‘Chariots of Fire’ Played Out In My Head” from Boobs, Injuries and Dr. Pepper. Ha! What a great story. The ending is what really tied it all together. I could totally see something similar going down with my family and in my neighborhood.
- “A Day in the Life of Landon” from Lag Liv. This was a great look into the life of a baby and I just LOVED that it was from his perspective. What a great idea. She’s got quite the little guy there. TOES!!
- “Cows and the Positions of Classical Ballet” from Confessions of a Pioneer Woman. What an AWESOME post. Who would have thought to lay down in a cow pasture and take pictures of ballet positions? Not me, but Ree did. And thank god, because I needed a laugh.
- “Sharon” from Dad Gone Mad. I love “how we met” posts and I loved even more that we weren’t able to tell that that’s what it was until the very end. And I love that we know Hot Wife’s name now.
- “I don’t want to be a mom today” from Slacker-moms-r-us. From one slackermom to another, I totally understand where she’s coming from on this post. It’s hard to let your child deal with this sort of junk by themselves, but there are times when we realize we have no other choice.
Whew. That was quite the list. I hope it makes up for the fact that it was SO darned late.
Coming tomorrow: a report on today’s perinatologist appointment (beyond what I said on Twitter, of course)
