This, that and five other things

by Marilyn on January 16, 2008

Or, it may be more than five things but I thought that sounded like a good number to start with.  The point is: This is a bullet post.  Because I have several things to mention, but as often is the case, none of those things are enough to warrant their own post.  See, I’m a conservationist that way.  Wouldn’t Al Gore be proud?

  • In case you couldn’t tell on yesterday’s post, I wasn’t REALLY mad at anyone.  I just thought maybe I’d guilt some of you into playing along.  But you know, that didn’t work. LOL!  Ah well, maybe no one was in the mood for a guessing game.  I can understand that.  If you are interested in where I posted on Tuesday, drop me a line and I’ll let you know.  You don’t even have to give me a guess. Be forewarned, however, it’s a rather long post.
  • I may actually be getting the baby gate I long for here in the next several days.  I won’t be holding my breath, but so far it seems as if Kile is all for it which, you know, YAY.  Because I need to keep this baby out of the kitchen.  He is really turning into a “Mr. Into Everything”.
  • I’ve never posted here some of the words Liam is saying now.  He’s not speaking a whole lot, but he’s getting a lot better at getting his point across.  He does say “Dada” and “Mama” but I’m not entirely sure if he uses them appropriately.  For the last couple of months or so he has been saying “Nye, Nye!” and “Uh, Oh!” and “Oh, Wow!”  The “Nye, Nye” (”night, night”) is the cutest because he smiles as he says it and waves both of his hands.  Sometimes he says “Nye, nye” when we’re going “bye, bye” so we need to work on that a bit.  But dang, it’s adorable.  “Uh, oh” we hear mostly when he has thrown his sippy cup to the floor.  Of course.  And “Oh, Wow” was something we heard a lot during the Christmas season when he would see a particularly impressive light display.  He still uses it, just not as much.  In the last month, he has also added “cup, cup” to signify he wants his sippy cup.  Oh, and like all toddlers, he’s starting to get a grasp on “no”.  He babbles a lot, saying strings of complicated nonsense words.  He speaks so conversationally that it’s often pretty funny.  I can’t believe how fast he’s growing up.
  • Harry is having a few troubles at school with kids picking on him.  It’s hard to get the full story out of him though as he’s reluctant to give us details and sometimes we aren’t sure if it’s a reaction just because he’s so sensitive to such things or if there is something really to get upset about here.  Kile is going to talk to his teacher this afternoon, see if he can’t ask her to keep a closer on these kids that Harry say are being mean.  I’m more troubled that Harry doesn’t seem to want to share this with us, and I want him to always know that he can tell us anything.  This school-aged nonsense is very frustrating!
  • We’re (meaning ME) still hemming and hawing about sleeping situations for the kids with the new one on the way.  The plan is to have Liam share a room with Harry.  But I will admit that I’m nervous about how that will go.  Liam is such a light sleeper and Harry likes to stay up quite a bit later on most nights.  And, of course, there is quite an age difference between them.  And what if Liam wakes up in the night and wakes up Harry?  The plan now is to start decorating Liam’s room for the baby (we have a window valance and a wallpaper border to put up).  It’s the smaller of the two rooms and makes more sense for a baby.  But I do wonder if maybe the babies shouldn’t share until we move into a larger house (where hopefully each child will have their own room).  Still, I’d probably worry about the baby waking up Liam and vice versa.  There’s no easy answer here, is there?  Good thing the baby will be sleeping us with for at least six months or so.
  • I got my new glasses from Zenni Optical yesterday!  Much thanks to Carrisa for recommending them in the first place.  Kile was a doubter but now that mine came, he was on the website last night looking for a pair for himself as well.  They’re very cute, they fit well and I’m just so happy to have NEW GLASSES.
  • I need to start thinking of post-baby birth control.  The OB wants to do a tubal ligation since she’ll already be “in there” doing the c-section.  But I’m nervous to just say “go ahead”.  We know we’re done having children after this one.  Three is our number.  But maybe there’s some other option that will work better for us?  I don’t know.  What do you all think?  Time is running out on this decision.

So there you go.  Plenty of random goodness for a Wednesday. Now let me get back to my all-important “Backyardigans” viewing.
