We called my daughter bird (mouth always open for food), claire (middle name), hannah belle (first name and I don't know why), and a bunch of others my sleep deprived mind cannot recall. It started right off with the baby, too. He was "The Boy" for months 'cause I couldn't call him by his name, which coincidentally is William "WIll", too. We call him Monster, Puppy, Willie, Bub, dude and Brother. I never had a nickname and think it is such a cute, family thing to do....

When I was pregnant, before we knew gender, we called the baby "junior". Then after Elizabeth was born, Paul started calling her "little bit", which is the one that seems to have stuck.

When I was born (at a whopping 10lbs 4ozs), my mother couldn't keep up with feedings as I wanted to nurse ALL. THE. TIME. She started calling me Hoover. It stuck until I was about 15 and she said it in front of my friends and fragile teenage ego. I spun around like a typical teenager and demanded that she never call me that again.

I regret it to this day. Nicknames really are awesome and so special when they're coined from something only your family can appreciate.

(I love Pocket Monkey!)
