I think I’m here

by Marilyn on February 5, 2008

So yesterday pretty much sucked.  Not entirely unexpected after my exciting weekend, but still.  At one point, about an hour after Kile left to go to work, I got up to get Liam his breakfast and just about passed out.  I felt dizzy, sick to my stomach and crampy.  And then my back started to hurt.  I mentioned this to Kile who promptly wigged out.  He wanted to call the OB and see what she thought.  He wanted to come home.  So he did and I felt like a total goofball for causing my husband to come home from work just to care for my busted ol’ booty.

But damn, I was glad he did.  Shortly after he got home, my back went into full on spasm mode.  No matter how I moved, if I sat or laid down, I was in AGONY.  I talked to my doctor and she said I could take some Tylenol for the pain and use a heating pad.  Kile also had me drinking water by the gallon and my feet were sufficiently elevated.  Still, I felt like a dingus.

Kile did a great job taking care of all of us.  He made me lunch, took care of Liam and made sure that Harry was on the straight and narrow.  He did a great job.  I think a lot of it was fueled by a desperate hope that I would not be put on bed rest.  You know, that if he took real good care of me that one day that maybe he could forestall any future trouble.  Well, whatever he thought it sure worked.

I had a particularly nasty back spasm yesterday afternoon.  It was so bad I could barely catch my breath.  So Kile, bless him, rubbed my back with some lotion and dosed me up with some more Tylenol.  I laid on the couch for the next four hours, I think. One more backrub before bed and I was good to go.

God bless that man.

So far today I’ve been taking it as easy as you can when you’ve got two boys running around.  I still get a little crampy when I’m on my feet so I’m drinking the water like it’s going out of style.  Don’t discount dehydration during pregnancy, ya’ll!  It’s a bad thing!  Drink your water!  For the love of GOD, drink your water!  Let me be your cautionary tale!

And with that, I’ll leave you with this shot I took of my belly last night.  This is what the monstrosity looks like from my perspective (sitting down, of course).  Scary, huh?

Oh boy. I hope you feel better. I HATE back pain. It’s the worst.

Water is your friend. Hang in there!
