I stole this one from Pocklock and she stole it from someone else who stole it from someone else. Judging from this particular meme’s sordid history of thievery, I don’t feel too bad about swiping it. I could have just posted this tomorrow but it’s appropriately themed for Valentine’s Day and since I’m schmoopy like that, who am I to miss an opportunity? I’m sure there will be plenty of posting opportunities tomorrow. I hope. Anyhow, here it goes:
How long have you been together? We met in September of 1996 and started dating on October 2nd of that year. We were married in August of 1998. Wow. That’s a LONG time, huh?
How long did you date? Do the math from the first question. :) We were pretty much engaged a couple months after we started going out but officially we dated for just shy of 2 years. Still, we were inseparable from day 1.
How old is he? REAL old. ;) He’s 37, will be 38 in June.
Who eats more? He eats more food than I do, I eat more dessert (at least now) than he does. He’s also more likely to lay into a bag of chips and finish it off than I am.
Who said ‘i love you’ first? He assures me that he did. Is it sad that I don’t really remember. I *think* it happened over the phone during our first separation (we were in college and both had gone home for Christmas break which is about six weeks long). We talked on the phone EVERY day. It was agony.
Who is taller? He is.
Who is smarter? I would definitely have to say him. He took calculus, for the love of God. I can barely SPELL “calculus”.
Who does the laundry? It’s not a clearly defined task in this house. Harry does his own laundry a lot of the time and Kile has been known to get a load or two going. But I would say that I do the majority of it. Which reminds me, I should probably get a load in tomorrow.
Who does the dishes? He does. We recently switched “jobs” and I took over trash duties. Of course, it’s been difficult for me to do even that lately so perhaps I should start doing the dishes some more. Especially since they’re piling up out there.
Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? I’m assuming this is from the perspective at the foot of the bed? If so, then I do. It’s the side closest the door, but that’s not why it’s mine. I chose that side years ago and we are sticklers for tradition.
Who pays the bills? He does. It works a LOT better that way. A LOT.
Who mows the lawn? This is another task I took over. I did most of the mowing last year. I imagine he’ll at least start off the mowing duties this spring for me.
Who cooks dinner? Definitely him. He’s the better cook and he’s got a lot more patience for it. He has some really great recipes in his repertoire. I’m always VERY appreciative of his efforts and let him know it.
Who is more stubborn? God, it’s a toss up. Kile is the sort to be really quietly stubborn. He won’t argue openly but he’ll just go ahead and do it the way he wants. Drives me nuts sometimes. But I’ve been known to dig in my heels on certain things too. Luckily, we’re mostly stubborn about the same things or we might have a problem.
Who kissed who first? It was a pretty mutual action but I’m sure he made the first move as I’m a rather shy person that way. I do remember it was on the night of our “first date” (see below) in the foyer of my dorm apartment at some ungodly hour after we were up late talking, talking, talking. For the record, I love Pocklock’s story. It curled my toes.
Who asked who out? Yeah, this was me. I’m not long on patience (no, REALLY??) and he had asked for my number on Monday and by Wednesday I had heard NOTHING from him. The nerve! Ha! So Wednesday afternoon I invited him to join me and a friend to go see a movie at the cheapo theater. It was Disney’s “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”. After, a bunch of mutual friends and us got together and made spaghetti and watched “The Three Musketeers” on video. Then we went to his room to study but ended up talking and telling each other our life stories.
Who proposed? This is a tricky question. After our interminable Christmas break away from each other, it was pretty much mutually agreed up on that we had to be together forever and that was that. We spent the spring semester at school that year pretty much “engaged” though there was no ring or anything. Shoot, I even had a wedding dress and a church reserved by that June! However, he made it “official” when I visited him for the 4th of July by presenting me with a ring during the fireworks show at a local park. Our wedding took place the following summer.
Who is more sensitive? Again, this is a toss up. It depends on what the subject is and who is pregnant at the time. I’m not a terribly sensitive person and neither is he.
Who has more friends? Me, probably. Though it’s not like I have a bevy of them or anything. We both generally stick to ourselves and it’s just lucky that we’re each other’s best friend.
Thanks, Pocklock, for the nifty idea! Ahh, love!
(oh, and in case anyone was wondering, I did get more chocolate like I mentioned wanting in my last entry. Liam got me a Reese’s chocolate heart, Harry got me a box full of chocolates and Kile got me a bag full of Hershey’s with Almonds. Amen!)
A couple of things going through my (pregnancy-addled) brain at the moment:
- LOST is on tonight! Am way stoked Especially since I heard that they’re planning to finish out the season as originally intended after a short spring hiatus. Thanks be to Jeebus that the damned strike is over!
- Think I definitely need more chocolate to eat. I’ve had a few Hershey’s Kisses and some Special Dark itty bars but that’s not NEAR enough.
- What’s the point of it being Valentine’s Day if not to eat extremely copious amounts of chocolate?
- Evie’s got hiccups right now. Hehehe! They’re still awfully delicate, but that could just be because I suspect her back is towards my back. Oh, and the doctor thinks she’s still breech. Should get confirmation on that at my peri appointment tomorrow.
- Okay, these hiccups are making me have to pee. For like the eleventy-hundredth time today.
- Have you seen the trailer for the new Indiana Jones movie? YOU HAVEN’T?? What the hell are you waiting for?? ‘Tis The Awesome.
- I think my stomach is growling but I can’t feel it. Just hear it. Normally I can feel it too so this is sorta freaking me out.
- Have I mentioned that I need some chocolate?
- Am going out of town (like 40 minutes away from here) this weekend for a couple days and I’m sorta sad about it because it means I have to leave behind my totally awesome new bed. Dogs? Who cares, it’s all about the bed, baby!
- Our new carseat is current en route to our house. Wee! Finally got the tracking information today. It’s okay, because I knew the shipping would be a little slow and I anticipated it. I’ll be way psyched when it shows up. A Graco SafeSeat for $99! That’s hard to beat!
- The Wii, sadly, has not shipped yet. Again, something I anticipated. I did choose the free shipping option, after all. We should have it around the end of the month though, which rocks. That gives us plenty of time to shop for accessories and games!
- I have been doing fantastic at drinking my entire 64oz of water every day. I started last week when things were looking poor. Admittedly, I do better when we’re actually home all day. But progress is progress, my friends.
- Of course, it occurs to me that this could be why I have to go pee eleventy-hundred times a day.
So it’s Valentine’s Day! I was hit with a surreal moment yesterday as I was at Walmart and walked down one of the many Valentine’s decked aisles. Wasn’t it just yesterday that everything was done up for Christmas? And the day before was Halloween, right? Next thing you know it’s all going to be about St. Patrick’s Day and Easter. The Easter one kinda freaks me out because by the time Easter is here, I will have a baby in my arms (God willing). And that, my friends, is just crazy talk. Anyhow, believe it or not, Love Day is upon us.
It’s a fun day to get into, even if you have no one to celebrate it with. I was unattached more often than not for Valentine’s Day before I met Kile and I don’t recall it ever really bothering me that much. I would celebrate it with my friends because, duh, we love each other too. As a kid, my parents would always give us a card or some chocolate or something. I loved the class parties we would have with all the Valentine’s exchanged. Still, none beat my first Valentine’s with Kile. We went to Elko to visit his family and go to a special “Sweetheart’s Dinner”. I remember my nametag for the event said “Marilyn Porter” even though we weren’t married at the time and being tickled to death by that. I also remember Kile’s dad insisting that they purchase corsages for all the ladies in honor of the occasion and thinking that was incredibly sweet. Shoot, I still think that’s incredibly sweet.
This morning, Kile presented me with a lovely vase full of roses.
Very nice. A great way to start the day. I gave him a jar full of chocolate covered pretzels to munch on at work. Because I just knew that was something he would really enjoy. Neither gift cost the other a whole lot of money, but both were appreciated. (Besides, we DO have that Wii en route to our house…)
So in honor of this Valentine’s Day, I thought I would share with you all some of my all-time favorite romantic movies. Maybe you can pop in a DVD sometime today while the little one is napping or save it for later to watch with your sweetie after the kids are in bed. And I’m just a sucker for a good romance. (FYI: These are in no particular order.)
- Love, Actually Shoot, the whole movie just about LOVE. In all it’s various forms. You want to stand up and cheer at the end.
- Titanic Okay, no standing up and cheering here. Just sobbing and a huge headache. But it’s still romantic as all hell.
- Moulin Rouge See #2. Of course, if you do like me and just stop it at chapter 21 (I think it’s chapter 21), then you can just pretend it has a happy ending.
- Pride and Prejudice I haven’t seen the A&E version which I think is an awful travesty. But this version rocked my socks and is, yes, romantic as hell.
- Roman Holiday For and “old movie”, it’s a good one. Audrey Hepburn is divine and Gregory Peck is so adorable I want to pack him in my suitcase.
- The Princess Bride What? It’s totally a romance! It’s just also (wait for it) silly as hell.
- When Harry Met Sally The movie that defined the romantic comedy, in my opinion. At the end? Where he’s running to the New Year’s ball? SOB!
- One Fine Day We watched this movie on our Wedding Day, after the reception. Has the most romantic soundtrack too.
- The Wedding Singer Despite being goofy and having an awesome 80’s soundtrack, this movie is (you guessed it) romantic as hell.
- Say Anything Does it get any better than John Cusack holding up the boom box playing “In Your Eyes”? I think not.
- You’ve Got Mail I can’t help but adore this movie. I love how he orchestrates their “meeting” at the end. Too freakin’ cute.
- Sleepless in Seattle I mean, heck, the movie finishes out on Valentine’s Day. So you KNOW it’s gotta be good.
- Sense and Sensibility That Jane Austen. This movie kills me. Strangely enough, it’s not the “main” romance that I enjoy quite as much as Kate Winslet’s character’s story.
- While You Were Sleeping Damn, but I love me some Sandra Bullock. And this movie is (like #11) too freakin’ cute. Just adorable all around.
- The Notebook If you don’t weep at the end of this movie, something is wrong with you. The romance? It OOZES.
- 10 Things I Hate About You Heath! *sniff* Despite the fact he’s in it, it’s a very romantic story and always makes me feel good.
- Walk the Line Quite possibly one of the best real-life love stories there is. This movie, it makes my heart sing.
- The Cutting Edge I had SUCH a thing for this one in high school. I watched it a plethora of times. I may just have it memorized.
- Never Been Kissed The end is worthy of a SQUEE!! The geek inside me can’t help but love this one.
- Bridget Jones’ Diary I tried to resist putting this on the list but a) Collin Firth is The Hottness and b) the scene where the men fight is fantastic. The end makes my toes curl.
So go forth and pop the popcorn! Curl up with your loved ones and watch some lovey-dovey movies. Eat entirely too much chocolate. That is, after all, what this day is all about, right?
