Perhaps an update is in order?

by Marilyn on February 15, 2008

Whoops. Funny how the day gets away from you, isn’t it? Silly me put more stock in plowing through my Google Reader backlog (Heaven forbid I should leave my computer behind for more than a day for surely then the feeds will EAT US ALL) than in updating the blog. For shame! Anyhow, before we slip into blissful 3-day weekend-land, I wanted to run a few items past ya’ll.

Item the First: I had a perinatologist appointment today. The news is GOOD, the baby is looking a-okay. The numbers from her MCA scan are right on target for her gestational age and following the curve nicely. He says that if she were developing anemia she would have excess fluid (she doesn’t) and her movement would be changing (it isn’t). The doctor said he didn’t see anything to make him believe she was in any danger at the current moment. He did caution me to keep track of her kicks and to notify my doctor if her movement slowed down at all. In the meantime, I’ll be back there in two weeks again for another scan. Wee! I got to see how she’s oriented in there and she’s still head up. She had a hand right next to her face and one of her legs up next to her head as well. Funny thing is? Her other leg is down beneath her. You know, that CANNOT be comfortable. But it would explain the location of some of her most violent movements.

Item the Second: Disappointment. I want to thank you all for your wonderful comments on my post on this subject. I just wanted to say that it wasn’t any one big event that caused my funk on the matter. Just some small disappointments during an already somewhat unpleasant day that caused me to reflect on WHY this makes me upset more than I think it should. Anyhow, I felt you all should know that I’ve found a very good antidote to this disappointment is to expect the worst. Now, I wouldn’t recommend this in all situations of course. I hold out the highest hopes as far as this pregnancy is concerned and I feel like I should. To do less would be a disservice to this baby and myself in the long run. But I’m talking about the little things. Casual plans and such. Even better is if you and hubby make it a sort of “game”. Then you can have a good chuckle about it later.

Item the Third: Our Wii has shipped! Note: this is far in advance of the original estimated shipping date of February 19. In fact, we are due to receive this wonderful bundle on February 18. Suh-weetness! Of course, I sort of expected this. We have many and sundry Amazon.com warehouses in the area and often receive shipments from them rather quick. But still, I had to laugh at this tracking detail on the UPS site:

Tracking detail

FYI: Sparks is like CONNECTED to Reno so it’s basically like saying the package originated and terminated in Reno. Wootness! That has to be the fastest package transit in history, eh? One whole minute from origin to destination. Still, it won’t get delivered tomorrow because the delivery date is the 18th and if I know UPS, they don’t deliver a minute before they have to. (I’m still a little bitter about Harry Potter’s Book 7) Still, that’s all well and good because we’re going to be out of the house all weekend until Monday anyhow. Am WAY excited to play with it.

Item the Fourth: “LOST” rocked my socks as usual last night. But I have to say that I called the ending. Sort of. I mean, as the guy was talking Kile and I both said, “Hey, it’s ___!” And it was. I felt very smart. Of course, all night I’d had a feeling that this particular person was either on Sayid’s “whack list” or the one orchestrating it so it was really just a very easy process of elimination at that point. Ahem. Am interested to see who the remaining two “Oceanic Six” are, but I have a good idea. All in all, a good episode. Can’t wait to see how things develop from here!

That be it from here. If you’ll pardon me, I have to get back to my busy schedule of sitting on my ass because it would appear that every time I walk for more than 20 feet I become a complete crippled invalid.

Things I am irrationally upset about

by Marilyn on February 15, 2008

Yep, apparently there are enough to warrant an entire post. Who knew? I think it’s the “cranky” pregnant lady in me coming out to play, what do you think?

  1. Sephora is leaving my mall. I guess it’s not SO bad, as it is moving to another mall here in town. HOWEVER, this mall it is moving to is the super snooty high-fallutin’ one down waaaaaaaay to the south of town. Since we already live in the BFE north of town area, this amounts to about a road trip to get to this mall. And once I get there, I feel all inferior-like because all the stores there are so much better than me. Oh, don’t try to placate me. They are. It was bad enough that the mall we normally would go to is a good 20 minute drive on the interstate away from home. Now we’re talking 30-40 minutes! Oh hells naw. I want my Sephora back in my mall where it belongs! I maintain that Reno can support TWO Sephora stores! Sure, I mean, it’s not like I ever actually BUY anything there, but where the heck am I going to browse wistfully now?? Brookstone? I think not!
  2. “Yo Gabba Gabba” is coming to Noggin at the end of the month. Now, this show is one of the big reasons (other than wanting to escape the constant commercials for Barbie, the Island Princess) I switched from Nick Jr. to Noggin in the mornings. Now what the hell am I supposed to do? Is there nowhere sacred in cable tv-land that I can escape this abomination of a show?? Perhaps there are some out there that think this show is okay or maybe even (gasp) good, but I am not one of them. This show makes me want to give myself my own lobotomy. I’m *hoping* that since it premieres on a Saturday that it’ll stay on Saturday. I should know better than to actually believe that, but at this point, it’s all I’ve got.
  3. People that put outrageously large rims on their wheels. Do you know what I’m talking about? Something like this. Why does this bother me so much? It looks goofy, that’s why. Whenever I see a vehicle where the rims are huge and the tire is wee… well, it makes me want to key their car. And have you ever noticed, that half the time this look shows up on the crummiest looking cars you could ever hope to find? Why, I just saw a five year old Chevy Malibu of all cars with enormous rims. And the rims were easily the cleanest thing on this car as the rest of it was absolutely filthy with the dirty they always insist on throwing down on the roads around here in the winter (of course, I’m one to talk as my van is the filthiest thing I’ve ever seen. Let’s just say, it’s a good thing it’s a brown van. It’s just that now instead of a brown van with black windows it’s a brown van with grey windows.). Anyhow, the look just annoys me. It’s about as far from practical as you can get and I like to think of myself as somewhat practical.
  4. The new bed being moved closer to the door to our bedroom as perpetrated by my husband. You can read all about WHY this cheeses me off in this post over here.
  5. Broken engagements. This has to do with disappointment, as I discussed recently. I know it’s silly to get upset over canceled plans as much as I do, but I do anyhow. It’s a vicious cycle. What does it say about my self worth? About my ego? The questions and possibilities are endless. GAH.

The good news is I was going to include the Writer’s Strike but it’s OVER so I don’t have that to be upset about anymore.  In fact, they’re going to finish out the “LOST” season properly (OMG, was last night good or what??) which makes me irrationally HAPPY.  So there you go.  That should even things out some.  So tell me: What gets your blood boiling?  And does your husband look at you like your nuts when you rant about it too?
