Another Saturday, another lovely list of links for you all to enjoy. Have I mentioned that I love doing this? Well, I do. Later on today I’m taking off, leaving my fabulous bed behind (and word has it, taking the dogs with me) as I join my family for a weekend away at a cabin nestled in the Northern California hills/mountains. I’m a little concerned about sleeping arrangements, but I’m sure all the fun elsewise will make up for it. So tell me: do you have any fabulous plans for this three day weekend?
- “Now What?” from Petroville. She has posted a very heartfelt, very sincere post about what to do now that she has taken care of children and has no advanced degree. I imagine this is something that a lot of us stay at home moms feel at one time or another. Especially those of us who who got married and had children rather young. What do we do next?
- “When is your favorite show coming back?” from The Watcher. Oh thank GOD the writer’s strike is over! Is it just me or was that a particularly hellish couple of months we had with reruns and reality TV? Let’s not do that again, deal? This post came to me as VERY GOOD NEWS.
- “I told you” from Fly on the Wall. Another fantastically candid and real post. This time, she posts about how her political views may have changed over the years, but her religious ones have not. And how it can be a hard time reconciling the two. Believe me, I know ALL about this one.
- “A while back…” from Oh, The Joys. It’s hard to have a good relationship with your in-laws. But I loved this post where Jessica wrote about how she’s been trying. And I completely admire her for being the first to come forward after their disagreement. That is something I would have a hard time doing, but she shows me that it is possible to swallow one’s pride for the greater good.
- “And soon the pigs will fly” from No Pasa Nada. Like Schnozz’s post from last week (that I horribly forgot to annotate), this post is about trying to come out of one’s shell and dealing with scary social situations. This is a topic near and dear to my heart and while I don’t wish this awkwardness on anyone, I’m glad to see that I’m not alone here.
- “Another Kind of Knitting” from Oh, The Joys. Yep, another post from Jessica! This time, it’s one of those “Every Mother’s Nightmare” posts, where she’s called to her son’s school where has broken his arm. I think I would become the worst kind of basketcase in this situation. Here’s hoping that The Mayor has a speedy recovery.
- Have you see the new “MOMocrats” blog? I’ve found not one but two great posts over there this week. First we have “Giving Obama My Vote – But Not My Chest” is about the tough choice many Democrats are facing. True enough, I now think that Obama has the handle-hold on this thing but the fact of the matter is I cannot choose as both candidates are swell in my book. And “Is Healthcare a Right or a Privilege?” is a matter-of-fact look at the major arguments against universal healthcare and why those arguments don’t hold up. We all know this is a hot-button issue of mine and this post makes a LOT of sense to me.
- “One Dozen Long-Stemmed Years” from Amalah. Despite being a lovely, schmoopy Valentine’s love-letter to her husband, this post is also a long-awaited announcement that fans of Amy’s have been waiting for for literally years. I am beyond excited for her.
- “SAHD, Really” from Suburban Turmoil. This is the sad tale of what happened when she posted a story about not allowing a stay at home dad to join her local mom’s group and the backlash she received because of it. A bunch of SAHD’s have gotten majority tweaked about the whole thing and have resorted to rather childish behavior which is a shame because aren’t we all adults? I hope the furor dies down for her soon.
Wow, I didn’t have a whole lot of posts to link to this week. I must be falling down on the job. At any rate, enjoy the gems I’ve got for you (and they are gems) and have a great weekend.
