You Need to Read – March 1

Wow, March. Also? In like a lion. Do you remember that old saying? If March comes in like a lion, then it’ll go out like a lamb and vice versa? Well shoot, it had BETTER go out like a lamb because this is re-frickin-diculous. It’s also why I’m up and working on this extra early today at 2:02am. After our lovely weather yesterday, a cold front decided to clip us to our north but not before bringing us that most wonderful of all weather phenomena: WIND. It’s about 26mph out there right now. Gusts up to 80. That’s what the weather sites are saying. All I know is those gusts are enough to a) keep me wide awake and b) shake the entire second story of my house. Can’t say I enjoy that a whole lot. So I came downstairs for a drink of root beer (cures what ails ya!) and a go at my fabulous link post. I figure if anything will take my mind off the wind, it’ll be these awesome posts.

  • Bullies in Uniform from Not The Mama. I was infuriated for her on her behalf while reading this post. This sort of injustice just really chafes my hide. Just truly makes you wonder what goes on in some people’s minds that makes them act the way they do. GAH.
  • The Golden Ticket. from Flotsam. I’m new to reading her blog, but after this post (and all the ones before it that I had to voraciously read), I definitely plan to stay tuned. I had my heart in my throat for the majority of this post. What a story she has to tell here. I hope to see an update soon.
  • some news… from simple things. Yay for Mojavi! I certainly wasn’t expecting to see this news on her blog but I’m thrilled beyond words. Congratulations! I can’t wait to be a part of your journey.
  • Committed from Boobs, Injuries and Dr. Pepper. When I first read this, I marveled at her bravery. Then I later learned she was being raked over the coals since she had asked for donations for her grandparents and people felt this problem of hers meant she was untrustworthy. WHAT?? I, for one, donated (a measly $4, but still) and the only thing I thought when I saw this post was, “I hope she’s feeling better soon.” That sentiment still stands.
  • Timeline: Twelve & Thirteen from Nothing But Bonfires. Have you been reading her Timeline posts? Because I’m rapidly becoming addicted. I would love to do something similar except my life has been nowhere near as fascinating as hers. She has lived in so many different countries! Anyhow, this particular installment read like something out of a movie or a novel, it was THAT GOOD.
  • Smirk Rehab from Daring Young Mom. Boy, can I ever relate here. I fear that I have one of those expressions that when, at rest, could look like I’m displeased/stand-offish/mentally incapacitated. I just wish I knew what to do to to solve the situation. I guess, like the Daring One, being aware of it helps, right?
  • i get by with a little help from my friends from house of h. Poor Lizzy. She’s had a time of it and to be worried about being able to provide for your new baby daughter is an awful thing. Which is why I was SO HAPPY to learn of her virtual baby shower. Let’s get Alice started off on the right foot here, people, and show Lizzy that there is, in fact, some fabulous left in this world!
  • Zoot’s Blogging Manifesto from misszoot.com. Awesome. I want a manifesto! Don’t be surprised if you see my own manifesto showing up here in the coming weeks. In the meantime, I love the groundwork she has laid down here. Reminds me of why I lurve her so!
  • Apple Dumplings from The Pioneer Woman Cooks! These delectable deserts look like they could quite easily kill you (or at least require triple bypass surgery!). But they also look so darned good that I don’t think I care. I have already informed Kile that we will be making these this weekend. And is it just me or could she make preparing liver and onions look fantastic?
  • All Good Things from Rockstar Mommy. DEFINITELY didn’t see this one coming. I guess the signs were there, as she’d mentioned. She hadn’t been posting much lately, the enjoyment seemed to be gone for her. Still, it’s always sad to see “one of us” leave the fold. She’ll be missed for sure.
  • I’m Letting it All Hang Out from Attack of the Redneck Mommy. Oh my aching ribs! I laughed so hard reading this post. You have to admit though, she brought it upon herself. But I have to say that I’m glad she did because I sure enjoyed the giggle.
  • one in 43,200 seconds from sweet | salty. Wow. This is a HEAVY post. And I do agree, wholeheartedly, that a belief in something bigger than us is something we need in times of tragedy. I have both of my feet firmly in ONE camp and I find her post to uplifting and full of hope for something greater for all of us. Anyhow, before I start preaching too much, I best move on…
  • INFRTL 4-EVAH? from Cheek. We all know I’ve wondered about this very topic on this very blog before. Does infertility “end”? What becomes of us, the formerly infertile? Were we ever truly infertile to begin with? Good questions, all of them. I can’t say she comes up with any answer, but her wonderings are a lot more pithy than any of mine ever were!

Well, there you have it.  And that has killed the better part of an hour for me.  The wind should start dying down some here soon, perhaps enough that I can fall back asleep and stay that way.  I have to admit to being rather bushed.  In the meantime, I’ll watch some more of “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves” (gah!) and listen to the wind howl away outside.  I hope you all have had much better rest than I have and that you have excellent weekends ahead of you!
