What’s cooking in the womb

Posted on March 4th, 2008

I want to thank all of you for the support you gave me after my last post.  And now you all truly know how neurotic I really can be about a silly matter of dates.  It’s something that has been on my mind for months now but I felt I finally needed to talk about it.  You all were fabulous though, I truly appreciate it.

I had a perinatologist appointment today.  Turns out, it was my last one, like, EVER.  Everything looked fine with the baby, her MCA doppler readings were completely average and exactly what we wanted to see.  So it would appear that any antibodies present are not harming my child one bit.  It may be a bit premature to wipe our brows in relief yet, but I feel pretty good about the whole situation.  At least I wasn’t being told to hustle my booty over to the hospital (you know, all the way NEXT DOOR) to deliver this baby NOWNOWNOW, so I consider that a good thing, right?  The doctor didn’t think he needed to see me again before Evie was to arrive so I was given a pat on the back, some hearty congratulations and that was that.

Oh, I did learn some other fabulous things while I was there.  The baby is now head down.  We can all breathe a sigh of relief now.  It was good to see her head down there where it was supposed to be for a change.  Even though it does explain the reason why my hips feel like they’re constantly splitting in two these days.  I didn’t confirm where her legs are located, however.  I’ll have to pay extra attention over the next several days to where I feel kicks and punches.  I half suspect that she’s got at least one leg sticking out to my left side because I often feel something hard poking out over there.  A heel, perhaps?

I also found out that she will likely well surpass Liam in the weight department (like that’s all that hard to do).  I’m not certain of the accuracy of these measurements done with ultrasound, but I’m pretty sure this doctor knows what he’s doing.  He says he figures she weighs 5 pounds, 9 ounces right now.  That put her at the 44th percentile for her gestational age, the middle of the road.  We could have a normal sized baby yet!  And believe me, nothing would please me more than to have to take the preemie outfit and diapers we got and donate them to the church or something.  Still, to be on the safe side, I’ll bring both the preemie outfit and the newborn sized one to the hospital.  I’m not taking any chances.

In other related baby news: Stacey from Hollow Squirrel is having her baby today!  Last I checked, there were no updates.  Which could mean two things: 1) There is no baby yet and 2) She already had the baby and is being way selfish and withholding information from us.  Until I find out, I’ll be refreshing obsessively.  Good times!  Best of luck, Squirrel Family!
