God bless a Sunday that I don’t have five million places to go and can just sit around and relax, but somehow get a ton done at the same time. While I’m having a hard time digesting the fact that it’s already 4 o’clock (when will I get over this??), more has been accomplished today than would normally get done on your average Sunday afternoon at home. Kile is outside right now, with HAarry helping, cleaning out the inside of the van. You have no idea how appreciative I am for this. It desperately needed doing before the baby came and it’s not a job I relish (especially since he plans on using the carpet steamer to clean the floors and seats and I still have no idea how to use that thing). Meanwhile, I’ve been busy filling out the baby book we picked up yesterday and I even painted the wooden frame I got for Evie’s room and stenciled it. It looks great with some of her 3D ultrasound pictures in it. I’ll hang it up in the nursery as soon as we finish painting it. Which, speaking of, Kile has already marked off where the wallpaper will be going so the next thing to do is to tape off the windows, doors, etc, and then we can start painting. Wee!
I was just up in the nursery, going through the dresser. There was still some of Liam’s clothes from his first year in there that I needed to clean out and put in a box. I was a little sad as I went through it, as a lot of them were clothes that he never got a chance to wear and a lot of them are really cute outfits. Hopefully, they’ll be going to a good home. And THEN, it was time to go through some of the girl clothes that have been handed down to us (THANK you, Michelle!), seperate them out by size and tuck them into drawers. And… oh my ever-lovin’ goodness. It really hit home as I was folding up onesies and sundresses and all things girly that I will actually be having a girl very soon and she will actually wear these adorable clothes.
I can’t really fathom it yet. Yes, even after all this time. It seems unreal, like this is the sort of good luck that happens to other people. How is it that *I* can have such a perfect little family? Lest you think I’m suggesting otherwise, let me assure you that I would think my family is just as perfect if this baby was a boy. I guess what I think is so amazing is that we went from being a family of three, yearning for more… and now here we are, about to become a family of five. Amazing.
Still, that I get to have a girl on top of it all and completely round out my experience is beyond humbling. How did I get to be so lucky? If you had told me back in 2005 that I would be where I am today I wouldn’t have believed you. I was sure that such wonderful things would never happen to us, they only happened to other people. I get to have my idea family… wow. It feels amazing and I wish every woman out there who wants a family could have one. It only seems fair, don’t you think?
(of course, I must qualify all of this by saying that the entire time I was writing the post I kept wanting to put “if” in there. Because, like all those who have been touched by tragedy, I can’t help but wait for the “other shoe to drop”. Even though in all likelihood there is no other shoe there. One day at a time. It’s a conscious effort. There WILL be a baby. And she will be beautiful.)

More clothes will be on the way. I swear, Elizabeth is getting taller, but it’s her legs that are growing. She can still wear 9 month onesies, but she needs 12 or 18 month pants! Of course she doesn’t weigh enough for those pants so she looks like one of those ridiculous teenage boys who belts his pants half way down his butt cuz he thinks it’s cool.
