Still without inspiration, it would seem

by Marilyn on March 10, 2008

Why is it that Daylight Savings Time doesn’t seem to really seem real until the actual week starts?  Yesterday, it was more of a marvel.  An exclamation during the day; “Wow, it’s 6:00 and the sun is still up!”  But life getting back to “normal” seems to throw the change into sharp relief.  Normally, I would be eyeballing the clock right about now, wondering where in the dickins Kile has gotten to but now?  With the sun up (wouldn’t you know it went behind a mountain just as I typed that?) and the sky so light, it just doesn’t seem quite so late.

I saw this headline on my start page last night and had to laugh.  I haven’t read the story, and I don’t even think I want to.  But the headline, it is a classic.

Chuck Norris the only WMD in Iraq, say US troops (Reuters)

Sometimes, I gotta say, I just love our country.

I have to wonder: I can’t be the only pregnant lady to pack alcohol in her hospital suitcase, can I?  Work with me on this people.  It’s been far too long since I’ve had a) a Hornsby’s Hard Cider, b) champagne and c) an appletini.  This does not make me a bad mother, does it?  (Don’t answer that.)  For what it’s worth, I’m not planning to feed the new baby booze-laced milk fresh from the tap.  I definitely plan to take advantage of the hospital pump.

Am looking greatly forward to reclaiming my body.  I’m not going to “give myself an easy out” and say that I’ll wait until I’m done nursing.  From my experience, the post-partum nursing period is one of the best times to lose weight because your metabolism already has that nice jump-start provided from breastfeeding.  Now, don’t think that this means I plan to launch some radical fitness routine or diet.  Ha!  As if. No, but I am going to get my rear in gear, move around more than I have lately (which is pretty much NOT AT ALL) and cut out all the darned sweets.  Because DUDE.  I think I’ve eaten enough sugar during this pregnancy to last me a lifetime.

Spring Break is this week.  This makes me want to throw something because WASN’T THIS CHILD JUST OUT OF SCHOOL FOR A WHOLE MONTH??  Add to that my annoyance that Spring Break has been carefully crafted in recent years to NOT coincide with Easter.  What the heck is THAT about?  I know we have to be all careful and politically correct and not tarnish the whole “separation of church and state” thing, but COME ON.  Even non-Christians celebrate Easter, don’t they?  And we get “Winter Break” during Christmas so what’s the deal here??  I mean, what if I wanted to go somewhere for Easter (besides the hospital to have this baby, of course)?  We couldn’t!  Argh.  Anyhow.  Drives me nuts.

(like it’s that far of a drive… *snort*)

Tapped out

by Marilyn on March 10, 2008

I feel strangely uninspired this morning.  The only things on my mind are: 1) It is ten days until this baby is born and 2) I had some really freaking dreams last night involving babies.  If only I could remember them.  Oh, and I slept like crap too.  I guess that’s to be expected at this stage in the game though.  I should be glad for whatever shuteye I can manage, I’m thinking.  Still, I find myself counting down to naptime anyhow.  A little over an hour away…

I’m pretty impressed with all that got done yesterday.  The inside of the van looks AMAZING.  Kile really spiffed it up in there.  He even installed the infant car seat (something I wasn’t expecting until at least next weekend).  We set up the seat for Harry in the back and with the double stroller in there, I am further reminded of just how little space we now have in that van.  No more big shopping trips with the double stroller, I’m thinking!  Still, it’s really cool to see our plans come to fruition.

And, because I’m completely out of juice this morning, I’m going to show you a couple pictures.  Because I’m cool that way.

Me in the Morning
Me, sans makeup, with dirty hair and attractive bags under my eyes.  This is me in the morning (complete with jug of water to drink!).
