The dust clears… — slackermama . com

So you may have noticed (or maybe you didn’t for all I know) that my site was mysteriously disappeared this afternoon. This, sadly, was unavoidable. I wanted to avoid it. That’s probably why I put off doing it for SO DAMN LONG. But with the baby on her way in one week (ONE. WEEK.), I knew there was no time like the present. What it boils down to is I had to doing some domain name switcheroo mojo and it had to happen before the end of the month or everything would go KABLOOIE.

And yes, I’m well aware that it appeared everything went KABLOOIE today but fear not! See, the major difference here was that I was “in control”. (If you define control as filling out a domain name switching form out with my host and then sweating bullets while the Powers That Be do vile, vile things to my site.) See, lilacpixels.com expires at the end of the month. And I wasn’t planning on renewing it. I wanted slackermama.com to become my site’s primary domain. Oh, you just THOUGHT they were all different sites. That’s how much mojo I have, people. No, slackermama.com was merely a “folder” or “subdomain” off of my main site, which according to my hosts was lilacpixels.com. So if I let lilacpixels.com expire, then not only would that site go POOF, but pretty much everything else too. It had to be done. But to do it, I had to (gulp) delete slackermama.com as a domain from my site. So while everything was essentially “still there”, you couldn’t see it. Of course, the timing was impeccable as I was taking a nap while this all happened so there was probably more downtime than there had to be.

Never fear, I awoke, I reinstalled WordPress, I moved plugin and theme files over, I restored my database (of course, me being a dumbass, I hadn’t backed up the database this morning so I had to go with last night’s backup) and everything should be mostly back to normal. And now nothing will go KABLOOIE.

And now slackermama.com is poised to take over the world. Muahahahaha!!!
