I’m not even going to pretend

by Marilyn on March 22, 2008

Shoot, I know how it goes.  Whenever someone in the blogosphere has a new baby, everyone just wants to see pictures of the baby. Maybe hear some birth details (I’m still working on that birth story!), but pictures are numero uno on the scale of importance.  So I figure, why not give the people what they want?  But first, some small updates:

  • I am getting progressively better.  I was VERY sore last night, but I attribute that to being as active as I was yesterday.  Maybe overdid it a little.  Better now though, and staying on top of my pain meds.  I took a shower this morning and that really helped freshen up my outlook.
  • Evie is doing great.  She’s showing a little jaundice, but so far nothing to get really excited about.  Because of her antibody thing, they’re going to keep an eye on that the next couple days. She gets labs drawn every morning which she really doesn’t care for.  Who can blame her!
  • She also doesn’t care for gagging, spitting up or anything associated with that.  I mean she REALLY doesn’t like it.  Makes an awful face and will often let out a very protesting cry or two.  She hates to be messy too, so if she’s spit up, she wants to be cleaned up right away.  What a prima donna.
  • I’m missing my boys something fierce.  I know staying here till Monday will be the best thing for me, but I do miss my family being all together.
  • It’s been pretty lonely here!  Besides Jenn (you rock, J!), we haven’t had visitors other than family and it does get a little lonely.  It would be nice to have a person or two drop by BUT it is a holiday weekend and people are probably busy.  Plus, some people probably don’t want visitors themselves after they’ve had a baby so maybe they think other people don’t as well.  Perhaps.  We haven’t had any phone calls either.  It’s very eerie, almost as if we’ve entered a time warp where we don’t exist any longer.  Heh.
  • Am starting to think that maybe breastfeeding will work after all.  Time will still tell, and it might be easier to keep up with everything once we’re home, but she seems to really dig being on the breast even though I’ve officially entered Pain Territory.  So while I need scraped off the ceiling, she’s happy as a clam.  Oh well, I’m glad someone is.

Okay, enough small talk.  Here are the pictures.  You’re welcome.

Surrounded
The boys brought Evie her “Build a Bear” toys.  I don’t think she’s especially impressed.

Enjoying Evie
Future boyfriends beware: Harry is already super protective.

Checking out his little sister
Hey!  There’s a baby in this here box!

Eyes wide open
Taken in the wee hours.  I don’t think she appreciated the flash, to be honest.

Snoozing on the Boppy
Doesn’t this just make you want to curl up and take a nap with her? Or is that just me (or my Percocet) talking?

Pink Princess
She’s wearing actual clothes! Aww!  Of course, she just SWIMS in this 0-3 month sleeper.

You Need to Read - March 22

by Marilyn on March 22, 2008

I actually have a list this week! Go me!  This took considerable coordination on my part, which I think I deserve extra points for because I had a baby and all. You know, in case you missed that part. For the record, we’re all doing fine.  She is actually turning out to be quite the decent sleeper at night.  And she sneezes all the time.  What is that about?  I don’t think I’ve ever had a baby that sneezed so much as a newborn.  And she’s quite the pooper too.  Because I felt the internet needed to know that.  Anyhow, I’m just stalling now, aren’t I?  I’ll get to the list so we can all get out and enjoy our Easter weekends.  Deal?

  • When The Worst Happens: Dealing with Pregnancy Loss from Advice Smackdown. I hate hearing that this has happened to someone else. It just seems so cosmically unfair. Amy has some great advice for the poor girl and I’m always glad to see a discussion like this going on. Because as sad as the circumstances are, it’s far better to talk about it than pretend it didn’t happen.
  • And to think I enjoyed my first car ride, back in… from LOST A SOCK. This is a pretty precarious subject. I’ve seen enormous fights break out over this very issue so I was so glad to see a civilized discussion of car seat safety on Molly’s blog. And I think she did the absolute right thing by consulting a car seat inspector before making her final decision.
  • Moo from Dad Gone Mad. OMG, this is SO TRUE that I about busted my side open from laughing so hard (not a good thing in my current state, mind you). And most of us, as parents, have fallen for this at one time or another. And if you haven’t fallen into this particular trap yet, count your lucky stars.
  • The Crazy Chronicles, Part 7: The Fastest Hour from Boobs, Injuries and Dr. Pepper. Her account of her time in the hospital is nothing short of gripping. She had me anticipating her visit from her husband right along with her, feeling the conflict of emotions when she saw those without visitors and the easy way in which she finds herself slipping into the “groove”. I’m anxiously awaiting the next installment.
  • No babies allowed at Camp Baby from mothergoosemouse. This is nothing short of outrageous. Whoever heard of baby’s not being allowed at a conference geared towards them? That’s just silly talk, right there. Apparently, this very issue has angered MANY bloggers this week and I can totally see why.
  • May I be completely honest with you? from Joy Unexpected. Poor Y. I want so badly to see her get better. And I hope it happens soon because she deserves a break from the bleakness she’s had to endure lately. In the meantime, I enjoy her candor and honesty when talking about a very difficult subject. I wish her strength and peace.
  • WordPress 2.5 New Automatic Plugin Upgrade Problems from Lorelle on WordPress. WordPress 2.5 is due to come out any day now. It’s already delayed. Reading this post, I’m thinking I’ll put it off until I know I’m ready. But this post also has some really good information and resources about preparing your blog for the upgrade and what to expect.
  • My Man KNOWS How to Treat a Lady from Attack of the Redneck Mommy. This made me (and my husband) laugh our butts off. On the one hand, she sort of brought this upon herself (remember the furniture she ordered?), but on the other hand, it’s a RUST BUCKET. So I’d probably feel bad for her if I wasn’t too busy laughing over here.
  • Mystery Revealed! from Dispatches from the Island. Did you know Jorge Garcia (Hurley, from “LOST”) has a blog? He does. And it’s fabulous. And this post made me laugh out loud (and maybe scare a nurse or two). And, for the record, that would completely freak me out too. Some things I just DON’T NEED TO KNOW.
  • Why does parenting have to break your heart so much? and When a whore loses her looks… from loraleeslooneytunes.com. Two from the Fabulous Loralee this week!  The first post is from a conversation she had with her son.  And I have to tell you, I’ve had nearly the same exact conversation with my oldest.  It’s so hard to watch them struggle socially and know there isn’t a whole lot we can do to ease their suffering.  All we can do is be there and give them hugs.  Still.  It’s hard.  Her second post is more light-hearted.  A whole lot more.  I laughed so hard reading this that I had to include it.  Because I want you to laugh hard too.  I’m a giver that way.
  • This Charming Man from Jonniker.  Speaking of laughing!  I know it’s wrong to find delight in others misery (especially creepy misery) but she got me going here.  This exchange with her new gynecologist is so absurd and so awful that you have to laugh or you just might cry for her.  I hope she can find a decent doctor who actually, you know, LISTENS soon.
  • So You Want To Talk To Mommybloggers… from Queen of Spain Blog.  Wow.  She’s always eloquent and this is no exception.  I think she hit the nail on the head with regards on how PR and marketing firms should be dealing with women’s blogs (not just mommy blogs!).  This is in light of MGM’s “Baby Camp-Gate” this week.  I sure hope someone is listening.  And taking notes.
  • Baby Legs and Everything In Between from amalah . com. Ahh, the age-old debate… do we find out the gender or do we go for the “Big Surprise”?  Of course, we all know how I feel about the particular subject, but it’s different for everyone.  Still, I hope she decides to go for it and find out because I don’t think I could handle the not knowing.

I know these aren’t all the posts from the week. I’m, as you would probably imagine, a bit behind in my feed reader. Which reminds me, I have a far greater chance of listing a post here in this list if the blog offers a full rss feed instead of a partial feed. I make a few exceptions, very few exceptions. With all the blogs I read and as lazy as I am, I just don’t have time to click through to EVERY blog. And whenever I find a new blog that I love and that has full feeds, I get downright GIDDY. So, you know, just a thought.

Now it’s time for you all to get out and enjoy those weekends.  Except me, of course.  I’m sort of stuck here.  Forced vacation, almost. I’m not going to complain because here in a day or so, it’s going to really start.  And I’m kinda scared.
