Sacked out

by Marilyn on April 4, 2008

Evie is currently sawing some serious logs on my lap.  This is after she and I took a two hour nap together.  And on top of the one hour she took before that.  And the catnap she got in WHILE SHE WAS NURSING.  The girl?  She is tired.

I had my two week followup post-op appointment with my OB this morning.  The appointment was about 20 minutes after the bus picks up Harry for school.  Since we live out in the sticks, that meant we had no time to waste this morning.  Everyone had to be up, showered, breakfasted, dressed, changed, and ready to go at an hour where these days we’re lucky to have our eyes open.  But we managed it.  Somehow.

The appointment was very cut and dry and rather quick.  I think I was the first patient of the day, which does help.  She took the tape strips off my incision (yowch!) and put a little gauze on the patch that is (still) resistant to healing.  It all looked good though.  I got the all-clear to start picking up heavier items, but to take it easy and not overdo things.  She did remark on how good I’m looking saying (and I quote), “Are you sure you had a c-section two weeks ago?”  This made me wonder… how do women who have c-sections usually act two weeks later?  I can’t possibly be that abnormal, can I?  I’m just getting by and doing my thing.  I feel pretty decent, but does this mean that there are women who do NOT feel decent at two weeks?

Anyhow.  She told me I didn’t have to come back for a six-week postpartum appointment since that main purpose of that is to discuss birth control.  And, obviously, the point is moot with me.  She said I could come back if I was concerned about my incision, but she would expect that if I had problems I would call her anyway and they’d work me in.  So no six-week appointment for me!  I go back in September for my annual visit and that, as they say, is that.

We left the office building and decided to go exploring the neighborhood.  We’d seem some professional women types on our way in that were carrying cups of Starbucks and determined that there must be a Starbucks in the area (we’re so smart).  Sure enough, we walked about a block with the wee ones in the double stroller and found a Starbucks.  Oh, caramel apple spice!  How I’ve missed you!  The barista oohed and aahed over the kids and we, naturally, just soaked it all in.  Evie was wide awake and enjoying the adventure.

After that, we stopped by the university.  Kile thought there was a meeting going on that he could poke his head into but it turns out there wasn’t.  Still, he was able to check on a few issues and we were able to show off the baby.  She was hungry, so I fed her in his office for a few minutes, but it didn’t put her to sleep.  After we left there, it ws getting close to lunchtime so we stopped at Wendy’s on the way home where Liam promptly refused to eat anything remotely resembling food.  He sure had a great time chucking it all on the floor, though.  Turd.  Evie was snoozing by this time, but stirring.  Still, there was enough peace so that we could at least eat.

When we got home, she was starting to get cheesed off so I figured she must be hungry.  Alas?  She was not.  She wanted to be snuggled, as she promptly fell asleep in my arms.  And, since I’m easily prone to suggestion, I wanted to sleep too.  So we went upstairs, climbed in bed (well, I climbed and she was placed there by me) and we snuggled and sleep until after three o’clock.

Ahh, it was heaven.

My little girl had a busy morning.  It tuckered her out.  It tuckered ME out.

I was the same way - on recovering from a c-section. The same day I had my daughter I was up moving around, while a woman in the next room who had surgery before me didn’t get moving until almost a day and a half later! But when you’ve got other kids, you’ve gotta just do it, right?

How awesome that you don’t have to go back again until September! I’ll keep my fingers crossed that the incision doesn’t cause you any problems.

That sounds like a blissful day! I can’t wait to snuggle up and nap with a newborn!
